Job Description

This position's responsibilities include the direct supervision of a group of 10 lab technicians and 1 document controller. The QC supervisor is responsible for organizing and prioritizing the workload so that all glass intermediate and finished products have been tested according to the customer specifications; and that the final product that is shipped to the customer satisfies all customer requirements.

Manage and support the testing activities of the QC technicians.  This includes the testing of formulations before they go out to the plant floor; as well as adjustments of formulas to make sure that all of the customer specifications are met.

  • Good communication with the entire group, including QC Lab Techs, Tech Service Lab Techs and Reps, Sales Reps, Customer Service Reps, and the Marketing Managers.  Good communication with the Operations group is also an important function of this position.

  • Good computer skills, for managing SAP functions for the group.  This would include the monitoring of accurate and timely data entry into SAP by the QC lab techs for all quality data that needs to be entered, and monitoring the COA’s that are sent to the customer for accuracy and timeliness.

  • Good organizational skills, for prioritizing the workload. The priority of the work is constantly changing in the QC labs, and the QC Supervisor is required to make changes as necessary and keep the work flow organized to ensure that the orders are getting shipped on time to meet OTIF goals.  The QC Supervisor must adjust priorities and assure that proper testing is finished so that product can be shipped on time and in full.

2.    Address and communicate Customer Complaints and their corrective actions to the customer and the appropriate marketing personnel.  Work closely with the customer to provide the testing information that is necessary and product specific.  This position is also responsible to work as a part of a team to trouble shoot and do problem solving for the glass customers that are having difficulty with Ferro products.  Act as an interface with the customer and production to solve quality issues.

Participate in the daily operations meetings, S&OP meetings, R&D meetings (when necessary), technical team meetings, and with the marketing group to discuss quality issues and communicate QC results.  Work closely with the tech service group when new products are developed to assure a smooth transition to production and make sure that all necessary customer specifications are entered into SAP.

The qualifications for this position require a degree with excellent communication and management skills.  The QC Supervisor requires little supervision with responsibility for independent decisions.  Good organizational skills are necessary for this position, with expected changes in the priority of work and the communication to keep the lab techs informed.  The ability to keep the work flow moving so that the production facility is manufacturing the products required by the customer is an important part of this position.  The position requires technical problem solving skills, and the willingness to take on responsibility.
