Job Summary

The Underwriting Innovation Team is looking for promising new product leaders to help accelerate our digital transformation. We want diverse thinkers who know how to bring innovation to life by facilitating the design and development of simple, intuitive, and user-centered software solutions. You'll help senior department leadership drive the transformation of a traditionally paper-based business by re-imagining underwriting as a digital experience, thinking through both the underwriter's and customer's lenses.

As an Underwriting Innovation Product Manager, you'll join the Underwriting Innovation Team's efforts to reimagine the title insurance and transaction closing process. You'll get to work under the mentorship of our outstanding Principal Group Product Manager to bring together researchers, designers, engineers, and business stakeholders to create empowered, cross-functional, durable product teams that deliver outstanding digital products.

What You'll Get To Do:

  • Build products that are valuable, viable, usable, and feasible to underwriters.

  • Integrate technology solutions into a holistic, 21st-century underwriting process that seamlessly delivers the right tools, options, advice, and resources to underwriting personnel at the right time, in the right place, and in the right format.

  • Drive the continuous improvement of your product through user experience research, strategy, design, and iteration.

  • Identify novel solutions to entrenched problems and foster an empowered product environment to bring about positive change.

  • Forge consensus across a diverse group of stakeholders to make sure that your product is constantly in tune with the evolving needs of the underwriting community.

What You'll Need To Do It:

  • A digital-first, user-centered mindset with a passion for building technology solutions that empower (rather than replace) human judgment by easing the burdens on underwriters' time and attention.

  • The intellectual dexterity of both "hard" and "soft" skills required to lead by example on a cross-functional, cross-skilled, collaborative team.

  • Exceptional oral, written, and visual communication skills, with the ability to adjust communication style as appropriate for dynamic constituencies.

  • Thorough understanding of user-centered design principles and product management practices.

  • Intellectual curiosity and a constant drive to learn and upskill.

  • Proven ability to deliver results in a complex business environment through leadership, coalition-building, and influence.

  • Ability to develop an understanding of the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of real estate title insurance and settlement services processes.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree required

  • Degree in human-computer interaction, user experience, human factors, or a related field is a plus.

Experience

  • 2 or more years working on technology-powered products as any of the following: product manager, product designer, engineer, data analyst, data scientist, user researcher, or experience similar to any of the above; or

  • Graduate-level educational experience in human-computer interaction, user experience, human factors, or a related field may be considered as a substitute for work experience; and

  • Experience in real estate is highly desirable.

Diversity

The Underwriting Innovation Team knows that innovation only happens when diverse perspectives come together to spot opportunities that others can't see. We expressly seek diversity in all its forms, including life experiences, educational backgrounds, identities, cultures, work experiences, and all other forms. Please be prepared to share with us how your perspective will bring something unique and valuable to our team.

First American invests in its employees' development and well-being, empowers them to provide superior customer service and encourages them to serve the communities where they live and work. First American is committed to diversity and inclusion. We are an equal opportunity employer.

Based on eligibility, First American offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401k, PTO/paid sick leave and other great benefits like an employee stock purchase plan.
