Job Description:

Our Meritor Laurinburg/Maxton facility has a great opportunity for a Tooling Engineer role! This position will provide drafting and design support for the creation or modification of new and existing jigs, fixtures, tooling and gauging required for both productive and test equipment. Provide design support for non-tooling related items such as facilities, plant layout, safety, and productivity related projects.

Job Responsibilities:

• Must be able to develop a concept, design complex assemblies, and create detailed, dimensioned drawings that can readily be made by a tool room.

• Be able to seek quotes from outside sources and follow up on progress as required by project

• Must have a clear understanding of drafting practices and geometric dimensioning and tolerances

• Analyze tooling and fixture problems and be able to recommend and implement solutions

• Reverse engineer existing tooling and fixtures

• Maintain a filing system of multiple designs for a number of different engineers which accurately controls design level and responsibility

• Work with other engineers and/or operations personnel on the assembly line to ensure proper function of tooling designs

• Work with Tool Room to resolve design changes and material substitutions

• High school graduate. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Applied Science, Mechanical Design and Drafting, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing/Industrial Technology, or other Engineering discipline is preferred

• Minimum five years’ experience in the design of tools and fixtures for the automotive / heavy metal industry required

• Proficient with AutoCAD or other 2D CAD software required

• 3D parametric modeling software experience preferred

• Proficient in Excel, Word, and Access required

• Proficient with common measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, dial indicators) to produce drawings of existing tooling required

• Strong communication skills in order to effectively work with multiple teams across the plant required
