Kinder Morgan is one of the largest energy infrastructure companies in North America. We own an interest in or operate approximately 84,000 miles of pipelines and 157 terminals. Our pipelines transport natural gas, gasoline, crude oil, carbon dioxide (CO2) and more. Our terminals store and handle petroleum products, chemicals and other products.

Primary Purpose

  • Develop knowledge and provide technical support in all areas of natural gas pipeline operations. Lead and support technical projects, perform data review, and report results. Position will require frequent travel throughout a defined geographic area to learn and provide onsite support to operations personnel.

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Travel to field sites and offices with occasional overnight stays. Some extended hours and after-hours work will be required.

  • Provide technical support to Operations in the areas of pipeline, plant, measurement, and corrosion.

  • Review proposed projects, generate project alternatives, and assist with cost estimates.

  • Support Division management with reporting and data analysis of various internal data sets.

  • Assist operations with project scope documents, schedules, contractor bid documents, job showing, and requisition materials.

  • Apply the company's design and operating philosophy within the field locations to meet corporate goals for safety, regulatory compliance, efficiency, and profitability.

  • Perform onsite investigations into equipment failures and develop follow-up action items to prevent future failure of similar equipment.

  • Participate in budget development and forecasting at various levels of the organization.

  • Effectively prioritize workload between multiple projects and competing priorities.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

Education


  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Petroleum or Chemical)

  • Entry-level position


Experience/Specific Knowledge

  • Develop knowledge of relief valve capacity calculations and sizing regulators and control valves.

  • Develop investigation and root-cause analysis skills to investigate and prevent equipment failures.

  • Develop knowledge of pipeline fabrication and construction techniques.

  • Develop knowledge of hydro testing of natural gas pipelines.

  • Develop knowledge of natural gas storage facilities and treatment processes

  • Develop knowledge of natural gas pipeline regulatory codes and engineering standards.

  • Develop knowledge of high pressure natural gas pipeline construction and remediation.


Certification, Licenses, Registrations
  • A satisfactory driving record as determined by the Company and a current, valid State driver's license are required.

Competencies skills and abilities

  • High level of proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

  • Well-balanced interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communications skills are required.

  • Must be accountable and take direction from Supervisors and Managers; keep required work schedules, which include regular and predictable job attendance; focus attention on details; follow work rules.

  • Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks are essential.

  • Must be a problem solver with the ability to find resolutions.

  • Must be highly self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision and/or direction.

  • Must be flexible and able to work effectively in a team environment and consistently maintain a professional and respectful demeanor/attitude with co-workers, clients, vendors, and regulatory agencies


Working conditions / Physical Demands

  • Availability to travel throughout the assigned region and other locations as required in performing job duties. 30% - 60% travel required

  • Employee must be physically capable of completing and satisfying all training requirements as stipulated by local, state or federal agencies and/or Company Policy.

  • Work is performed both inside and outside in varying and sometimes extreme weather situations.

  • Field activities will include assigned work in compressor facilities, on the pipeline right-of-way, and in meter stations.

  • Extended periods of sitting may be required for administrative activities
