Job Description:

We are looking for a driven, talented Senior Training Specialist / Instructional Designer to join our Global Quality & Operations (GQO) Training & Development Team. This individual will be responsible for a blend of activities that include both training administration and instructional design. Through regular interactions  with team members, business process owners, trainers, and various levels of management across departments, the person filling this role will collaborate with internal customers to understand their needs and expectations to be able to design and develop an appropriate solution to fulfill the needs and exceed our customer expectations. This role involves the opportunity to lead training projects, participate on collaborative team / cross-functional projects and independent assigned tasks.

As Illumina continues to grow and expand into global, commercial clinical markets there is a need to establish training solutions that support employees’ development and demonstrate compliance to applicable internal and external guidelines and requirements. This role includes innovating, creating, and implementing alternative training and delivery methods, e.g., Instructor-led, web-based, synchronous/asynchronous distance learning, self-paced and blended learning models, while collaborating cross-functionally, with other training departments across the business and different parts of the world to reach this objective. This position also supports the evolution and improvement of our global training programs and procedures.

Responsibilities:

Training Administration:


  • Provide administrative training support for the global organization.


  • Partner with operational management and other stakeholders to coordinate the grouping and assigning of training in the Learning Management System (LMS) including deployment and ongoing support of Role Based Training and On the Job Training


  • Manage the catalog of training courses and certifications in the LMS


  • Contribute to customer satisfaction by providing information, guidance, and assistance with the LMS and/or training programs, assignments, issues, and metrics


  • Provide real-time training compliance data support for internal and external audits, including excel spreadsheets and analysis as needed


  • Host discussions / presentations with peers, management, and relevant cross-functional stakeholders to review tasks, provide project updates, and influence decisions at critical team interfaces


  • Network with senior personnel in other internal training organizations to facilitate global training program and process alignment


  • Support partnerships with all Global Quality and Operations sites and functional areas to enable sharing of GQO T&D best practices and align training strategies and goals 


  • Lead / support process improvement and program development projects of medium scale and complexity


  • Create, develop, and implement training plans and required templates to be able to support the project through the content development and LMS / ILT implementation cycles.


  • Identify and execute on opportunities to improve the learning experience and enhance training quality and effectiveness for employees


  • Provide training for new LMS training administrators and SME support for current team members


Instructional Design


  • Conducts needs assessment using industry standard methods.


  • Designs and develops course, module, and lesson storyboards in collaboration with SME’s.



  • Collects, analyzes, or creates content required for development of objectives, including, but not limited to:


    • Text, graphics, animations, audio, activities, videos, and quizzes / surveys.



  • Transforms complex technical concepts, procedures, and processes into relatable learning experiences.


  • Programs computer-based instructional materials using industry-standard tools including Articulate Storyline 360 and Adobe Creative Suite and Vyond.


  • Captures / records software screens and programs for interactive hands-on activities.


  • Develops course evaluation vehicles to elicit feedback from trainees.


  • Completes course uploading, navigation testing and course completion in the LMS.


  • Follow Kirkpatrick methodology to measure the training effectiveness and ROI on projects.

Requirements:

Required Educational Background:

Bachelor’s degree in a training/education related field or equivalent related work experience

Required Experiential Background:


  • Strong customer service orientation and experience


  • Minimum 5 years successful experience in a similar position within an internal or customer training organization


  • Experience with Learning Management System(s), web seminar delivery systems, and/or other training management/tracking systems


  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management or Document Management Software


  • Experience working in the medical device or other regulated industry


  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and at least one database and reporting program


  • Project management training/experience


  • At least 5 years of experience in training and development instructional design initiatives.


  • Intermediate to advanced experience with Articulate Storyline


  • Experience with the creation of voice-over scripts, audio recording and editing.


  • Video recording and video editing experience with industry standard tools.
