Bridge Foreman at Genesee and Wyoming Railroad in Phoenix, Arizona

Job Description:

SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for the day to day operations of railroad bridge construction and repair projects including job site safety, production, crew assignments and equipment operations. Bridge Foreman are involved in the hands-on construction and maintenance of bridges and structures composed of timber, steel and concrete. The Foreman is responsible for the complete project including site preparation, material staging, safe work practices, workmanship, quality and job site cleanup. In addition, the Foreman is ensures all work is performed in accordance with all applicable standards and specifications. The Foreman carries out all responsibilities in accordance with G&W safety policies and applicable laws, working under direction of the Bridge Supervisor.


 


RESPONSIBILITIES:




  • Lead the bridge crew to complete all assigned tasks in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with the applicable rules and safe job procedures.




  • Ensure compliance with all G&W, federal, state and local regulations, policies and procedures.




  • Assist Bridge Supervisor in managing projects to ensure deadlines are met.




  • Assure the quality and workmanship of the work performed.




  • Ensure daily equipment safety and maintenance checks are performed.




  • Ensure quality job briefings are completed at the beginning of any task and when conditions change.




  • Report daily production as required by the Bridge Supervisor




  • Work at excess heights and in adverse weather conditions.




  • Work with hand, gas, hydraulic, and other powered tools.




  • Promote a safe and drug free working environment.




  • Complete other projects and duties as assigned.




  • 100% travel required



 


REQUIRED SKILLS AND/OR EXPERIENCE:




  • 1-3 years of railroad bridge construction and repair experience required




  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications




  • Ability to assess and troubleshoot problems and provide resolution in a timely manner




  • Understand and carry out oral and written communication both general and technical.




  • Experience operating Excavator, Small Crane and other heavy equipment preferred




  • Ability to work at excess heights




  • Ability to lift up to 90 pounds.




  • Ability to climb, stoop, kneel, bend and reach overhead.




  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions




  • Knowledge of roadway-worker protection regulations




  • Knowledge of FRA fall-protection regulations




  • Motivation to build technical knowledge and skills




  • Ability to demonstrate persistence and overcome obstacles




  • Ability to balance team and individual responsibilities



REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR CREDENTIALS:




  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent combination of education and experience required.




  • Must poses a valid Class A CDL, or ability to obtain within 6 months
