The Primary Research Management (PRM) team is currently seeking a Principal to provide primary research for the Information Technology Leaders and Technology Professionals (ITLTP) Practice. The team leverages proprietary quantitative and qualitative data to offer original, actionable insights to key business problems facing senior executives across industries. This is an individual contributor role with expectations to act as an independent, research expert responsible for providing content leadership and planning.

What You'll Do

You will be responsible for developing, supporting, and executing strategic research that is fueled by intensive data collection, in-depth research, and analysis.


  • Lead planning, coordination, and assessment of primary research for the ITLTP Practice

  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of the group's market research agenda priorities, content produced, and client value

  • Oversee and guide team members to use the best quantitative methodologies and research designs

  • Consistently drive visibility and leverage of Gartner data assets from across the company

  • Proactive planning for primary research through strong partnerships with practice research leadership

  • Assess practice's use of data and graphics and champion necessary improvements over time

  • Identify suitable opportunities for collaborations with other Research Data Analytics (RDA) teams to collectively improve the research support and share resulting best practices with the team

  • Shape the strategic direction of the Primary research team through the understanding of overall research vision through interactions with senior-most research stakeholders

What You'll Need


  • Master's or Bachelor's Degree or equivalent required in statistics, economics, psychology, social sciences, or mathematics

  • Total experience of 5-7 years for Master's, 7-9 years for Bachelor's, with proven expertise in handling multiple complex projects and global stakeholders

  • Understanding of statistical concepts and experience in advanced analytical techniques

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint

  • Original/creative thinking and superior problem-solving abilities

  • Advanced analytical and data visualization expertise

  • Strong communication skills - both written and verbal

  • Ability to work independently on multiple projects and effectively contribute as part of a team

  • Proficiency using tools like Python, SPSS, and R for advanced analytics is an advantage

  • Able to perform end to end research process i.e. study scoping & design, questionnaire development, and results analysis

  • Able to solve complex problems and successfully manage ambiguity and unexpected change

  • Comfortable in collaborating with senior stakeholders to identify key findings for research, client engagements and event presentations.

  • Prepare and share best practices and feedback as a means of continuous improvement

  • Strategic thinker who can contribute to Primary Research Management team evolution and strategy through self-development and collaboration with peers
