Job Description:

The Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) is one of the largest academic units within Cornell University and is home to the mechanical engineering (ME) B.S. degree program, as well as graduate programs in the fields of mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering (AE) and theoretical and applied mechanics (TAM). MAE's mission is to conduct visionary research in pursuit of the world's next great advances while providing a world-class education to tomorrow's leaders in the fields of mechanical and aerospace engineering.

This half-time position assists the Associate Director in supporting the NY Space Grant. Assists with the preparation of NY SG annual and semi-annual evaluation reports. Works in consultation with the Associate Director and the Director, staff, and Affiliate Representatives of the other Consortium member institutions. Maintains Consortium documentation/records and manages membership. Maintains records of Affiliate performance and works closely with the MAE finance team to ensure proper invoicing and financial reporting from 20+ subawardees. Assists Associate Director in data aggregation for the annual NASA OEPM report and yearly newsletter. Maintains Consortium website, events calendar and social media accounts. Communicates NASA opportunities to Affiliates and responds to Affiliate and public inquiries about the NY Space Grant programs and policies.

Required Qualifications: Associate's degree; 2 - 4 years of relevant experience or equivalent. The ability to work independently, be self-motivated, and have a proactive approach to problem solving is crucial. Effective writing skills and preferably experience in editing and proofreading project documents is needed. Strong organizational, communication and administrative skills are required. Must be able to multi-task and prioritize busy workload. Must maintain confidentiality. Also of value are proficiency in the use of Word, Excel, --among many Microsoft Office applications-- Adobe PhotoShop, Adobe InDesign and website design and maintenance. The ability to acquire a NASA IT clearance is required (this involves a background check). Experience working in a cross-cultural environment is highly preferred.

Preferred Qualifications: Preferred qualifications include experience working in an international, multicultural environment. Proficiency in mathematical analysis of program data, familiarity with NASA science and technology, capabilities in STEM outreach and related communications, and experience in NASA-relevant social media.

This is a 5 year term position, and may be extended beyond the 5 years pending available funding.
