Assistant Director/Career Adviser - Career Services at University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma

Job Description:

The University of Oklahoma is currently seeking qualified applicants for an Assistant Director/Career Adviser position. This position will be responsible for providing career advice, career development programming and comprehensive job search support to OU's students. The Career Adviser will: 


  • Plan, implement, and conduct workshops, presentations, and programs to educate and inform undergraduate students, faculty members, staff members, and administrators about topics such as: how to find an internship/full time position, career planning, job search skills, resume/cover letter writing, and interview preparation

  • Advise students regarding career choices, goals, strengths, occupations, resumes, cover letters and interviewing so they can understand how these factors relate to academic and career satisfaction

  • Participate in facilitating Career Services' events

  • Document and maintain accurate and timely records of student engagement

  • Direct experiential education and other employment opportunities to targeted student populations

  • Proactively seek opportunities to develop and organize outreach and collaboration with faculty and student organizations to enhance outreach efforts and implementation of career educational programming

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education/job related experience, And


  • 0-24 months experience in counseling/advising, career services or student services


Skills:



  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 

  • Must be able to build rapport quickly with students, staff and university stakeholders.

  • Comfortable using assertive outreach techniques.

  • Working knowledge and skills with computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines.

  • Able to produce reports and complete work within deadlines.

  • Ability and experience in counseling, coaching or mentoring

  • Comfortable speaking to large groups

  • Must be able to create and deliver effective training presentations


Certifications:


  • Drivers license required to drive to locations to conduct presentations, attend meetings or visit employers.

Advertised Physical Requirements:


  • Must be able to engage in repetitive motions, communicate, sit, stand and see including color, depth perception and clarity

Department Preferences:


  • Experience with first generation student engagement and diversity programming

Supervision: No Supervisory Duties
