Job Duties
Behavioral Intervention/Counseling/Case Management:
- Conducts triage assessment of students to determine appropriate level of care and urgency for treatment.
- Provides crisis intervention, advocacy, referrals, accompaniment, information on system-wide operations, on-and-off campus service coordination, problem-solving, and help with students who are impacted by traumatic, disruptive or disturbing life events (i.e. intimate partner violence, bias motivated incidents, issues of self-harm, etc.).
- Coordinates follow-up care for students in crisis and provides short-term, non-clinical supportive counseling as needed and will assist and collaborate with Student Counseling and Health Services teams in disposition and treatment plans for students within the case management system.
- Offers consultation to students for purposes of referrals to community and private resources as appropriate.
- Consults with on or off campus support service providers in tracking and following up on referrals and establishes and maintains regular contact with community resources to ensure quality referrals.
- Provides student mediation with other students/student groups on campus.
- Maintains full, accurate, and up-to-date case records.
- Delivers educational programs and materials, and recommends interventions regarding student issues (i.e. QPR Gatekeeper suicide prevention training, healthy communication seminars, etc.)
- Provides daytime crisis intervention and post-intervention services.
Administrative Consultation and Outreach:
- Collaborates with the Dean of Student Success Office in developing protocols for special needs (i.e. agency response to self-harm, disruptive students, handling sensitive cases/referrals, etc.).
- Serves on and counsels’ behavioral intervention & threat assessment teams and provides expertise in assessing high risk students.
- Offers consultation to faculty, staff, parents, and other health care providers, for purposes of care coordination and referrals to community and private resources as appropriate.
- Designs and implements educational programs, delivers programs, organizes educational materials, and recommends interventions regarding student issues (i.e. QPR Gatekeeper suicide prevention training, healthy communication seminars, etc.).
- Meets with Student Health & Counseling Services Staff to discuss student issues and trends and follow-up with identified student needs.
- Prepares statistical reports for student crisis reporting
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, or related degree and/or any combination of education and experience which clearly demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the job
Experience with or knowledge of mental health issues in college students
Well-developed interpersonal communication skills, including oral and written communication
Experience that illustrates an understanding of multicultural issues and the ability to foster communities that support diversity
Demonstrated willingness and/or experience working with students and/or co-workers from a wide range of abilities, backgrounds, and experiences.
Preferred Qualifications
Current licensure or eligible in the state of Washington as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor or a licensed Clinical Social Worker
Knowledge of the unique needs of a student-centered environment
Ability to incorporate multicultural perspectives and issues into everyday conversations.
Experience in crisis counseling/response
Experience and knowledge in behavior intervention and threat assessment strategies
Experience working within an institution of higher education
Demonstrated participation in programs designed to promote inclusion.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
Salary: Dependent upon education and experience
Schedule/Appointment: Monday - Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm (1 hour lunch)
Working Conditions: Work is performed in an indoor office setting with frequent in-person interactions. It is essential to be able to remain at a desk/computer workstation for prolonged periods of time, perform extensive data entry and other computer-related tasks and create/maintain filing systems for departmental records. Some evening or weekend work and/or occasional travel may be required.
