This position is located in Mandeville, LA, 70471.
The Underwriter II will assist in providing quality loans for the financial institution by underwriting and evaluating residential mortgage loan applications originated by the financial institution's lending area. Recommends approval or denial of customer applications for residential loans.
Job Requirements:
- Minimum GED or High School diploma
- 5+ years' underwriting experience
- Proficient with DU/LP/GUS automated underwriting software
- Working knowledge of FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA, USDA and investor underwriting guidelines, policies and procedures
- Working knowledge of ATR and QM rules and regulations
- Knowledge of all federal and state compliance regulations regarding lending
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Good problem solving skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong analytical skills
- Detail oriented
- Ability to analyze Credit, Capacity, Capital, Collateral, and Character to ensure file meets agency, investor and regulatory requirements
- Ability to comprehend agency and investor guidelines and apply them to individual loan scenarios
- Ability to multi-task and handle a large pipeline of loans
- Ability to navigate and work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to professionally interact directly with Sales and Operations staff
- Ability to work proactively and independently with minimal supervision
- Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word and Outlook
Preferred:
- Bachelor degree preferably in a business related field
- FHA DE experience
- Experience in secondary market residential lending
- Encompass experience
Specific Job Functions:
- Underwrites and reviews for clear to close a minimum of 3 - 5 files per day, or as determined by Underwriting Manager
- Decisions files within 48 hours and communicates to Processing and Originator
- Makes lending decisions on loans up to authority level; this includes ensuring that loan requests meet program and product specifications
- Communicates with Processor and Originator in a clear and concise manner
- Maintain a good working knowledge of loan programs, investor overlays and agency guidelines
- Complies with regulatory rules and regulations, evidenced through successful completion of training and demonstrated ability
- Performs other duties as appointed by management
