Our Specific Manufacturing Capability group is searching for a Technical Editor & Procedure Writer - we'd love to have you join our team!

Responsibilities Include:


  • This position applies advanced written and oral communication skills to multiple program areas within SMC.

  • Utilizes a wide range of information technology applications (e.g., word processing, graphics, layout, spreadsheets, visualization) to perform technical writing/editing tasks.

  • Writes/edits a variety of technical documents including articles, publications, presentations, or manuals concerned with operating procedures, system specifications, research findings, or reviews.

  • Displays ability to achieve a full understanding and application of technically complex equipment, principles, and theories.

  • Uses educational background and INL/SMC style guides to assist SMC document owners in planning, preparing, developing, and revising various documents (e.g., Laboratory Instructions, Management Control Procedures, System Operability Tests, Statements of Work, Forms, etc.)

  • Assignments are broad in nature and usually require analytical skills, originality, and ingenuity.

  • Assists with hazard mitigation reviews and Hazard Analysis Documents (HADs).

  • Works independently and manages multiple tasks or projects, expanding skills into other SMC areas outside of original expertise.

  • Verifies accuracy, consistency, and completeness of documents. Resolves document issues with text processors, authors, and customers.

  • Identifies problems and offers recommendations for continual improvement of the documentation and training process. Ensures control of classified hardcopy and electronic files at all times.

Minimum Requirements:


  • Level 3: B.S. and 2 years or Master's Degree and 1 year of related experience.

  • Level 2: B.S. and no additional experience.

  • Ability to obtain an "L" clearance and special Army clearance.
