The mission of the Department of Molecular Medicine is to make fundamental discoveries in basic research that will be relevant to and impact the biomedical community; educate and train graduate students, postdoctoral (PhD) and DVM fellows, and educate veterinary students in the basic biological concepts that underlie the development of treatment strategies. Department research encompasses cancer cell signaling and metabolism, structural determinations of membrane proteins and signaling systems, the molecular basis by which cells and their organelles respond to extracellular stimuli and stress, and signaling events that underlie neuronal transmission and function.

What you will be doing:

The Research Administration Assistant will provide complex administrative support for the Department of Molecular Medicine that includes assisting faculty, trainees, and academic staff with grant and contract preparation and submission.

The Research Administration Assistant is vital to the success of the department. Candidates should demonstrate initiative, good judgment, and a high-level of professionalism and confidentiality. A desirable candidate will also possess a keen ability for proofreading, formatting, and editing, have an organization system that allows management of multiple tasks/projects, and is highly detail oriented. You will use your honed service skills to create a positive, professional, and collaborative setting. Within this position, you will have the capability to work with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population to advance the research mission of the department.

Specifically, you will provide a high-level of pre-award support to faculty, academic staff, and graduate students. You will be the department's subject matter expert in all items relating to grants and contracts. You will provide faculty and academic staff with proofreading, formatting, and editing expertise on manuscripts and sponsor-related documents prior to submission. As the Research Administration Assistant, you will train team members on updates to university policy and sponsor guidelines.

You will also help to contribute as an integral part of a diverse team within the Department of Molecular Medicine.

What are the required qualifications?

An Associate's Degree and four to six years of relevant experience - or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Detail Oriented: You have the ability to proofread, edit and format documents to meet desired specifications. You are able to review and interpret university policies and sponsor guidelines to ensure overall compliance is met.

Effective communicator: You are able to effectively interact with staff, faculty, students, university partners, and external vendors, in writing and verbally. We also need strong interpersonal and organizational skills. You can demonstrate clear communications that thoughtfully projects a helpful, positive impression. You also appropriately handle highly sensitive and confidential information.

Multi-tasker: You are able to work quickly and effectively under pressure with an emphasis on maintaining discretion and sound judgment and use a methodical approach to planning and tracking tasks. Superb organizational/interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively manage multiple assignments and conflicting priorities simultaneously.

Strong service orientation: We seek your ability to anticipate and diplomatically resolve issues by using your remarkable customer service skills. You are able to work effectively with various personalities and different management styles.

Proactive and creative problem solver: You have the ability to work independently, take initiative, and accomplish tasks effectively in a dynamic team environment. You creatively approach and solve problems, using sound judgment and reasoning. Experience conducting independent research, judgment, and decision-making.

In addition to these requirements, we would value someone with prior experience in higher education and an understanding of the university administrative structure or experience in preparing and submitting grants and contracts, but it is not required.
