Director, Global Supply Chain Life Cycle Management

Bio-Rad is seeking a Director, Global Supply Chain Life Cycle Management.

 

The primary role of this leader is to bring together new and existing teams under one global function to support the Life Cycle plans of our Life Science (LSG) and Clinical Diagnostics (CDG) business segments.   This team will lead the supply chain responsibilities for the “cradle to grave” activities including New Product Introduction (NPI), Sustaining Engineering and End of Life.  The goals of this team will be to work with the Groups to formalize a robust transfer process aimed at accelerating the transfer of and improving the quality of products transferred into manufacturing from R&D.  This role will also formalize a more proactive and robust process for sustaining the large portfolio of existing products in alignment with the business groups.

 

This leader will accelerate our revenue, improve our cost of goods, improve product quality, influence our global inventory and overall contribute to the satisfaction of our global customer base.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a team to align and support the multi-year strategic plans and product strategies of our CDG and LSG business segments.
  • Recruit and develop top talent to support the goals of this team.
  • Manage a team of direct reports and dotted line relationships with other functions within and outside of supply chain.
  • Continue to develop the skills of the team to match with the strategic technologies of the Groups.
  • Sustaining Engineering and End of Life:
  • Create the global structure and robust process to lead Sustaining Engineering activities as determined by marketing's vision for product improvements and end of life strategies.
  • Partner with R&D sustaining engineering to drive improved product reliability, reduced costs, and ensure supply continuity.
  • Activities include second and third sources of materials and redesigned parts substitution with comparable alternates.
  • Proactively manage critical materials to reduce supply interruptions and large EOL parts procurement.
  • Coordinate with R&D Sustaining Engineering to determine requirements and validation plans for second and third sources for materials.
  • Work with supply chain planning to ensure adequate stock in inventory for the single source or critical specialty components.
  • Align with key stake holders on sunset approach for legacy products that are low gross are margin and diminishing revenues that are no longer a strategic priority for the groups.
  • Manage the phase in and phase out of existing and replacement products.
  • New Product Introduction and Support:
  • Create the global structure to accelerate the transfer of new products from R&D into manufacturing.
  • Partner closely with R&D and Manufacturing to develop a robust process for the transfer of new products into manufacturing ensuring quality, cost, and overall product readiness to meet launch timelines.
  • Manage a team to provide NPI-Procurement for on time material readiness of development builds.
  • Work with the Groups and Supply Chain to determine the appropriate inventories for launch.

Qualifications

  • MS (or equivalent experience) in Electrical, Mechanical, Biomedical or other relevant engineering disciplines. PhD or MBA, a plus.
  • Product launch to End-of-Life leadership experience.
  • Long Term Product Sustainability, Lifecycle management, obsolescence management.
  • R&D and Operations in depth technical knowledge.
  • 8 years of demonstrated experience of managing and growing successful global supply chain sustaining engineering and NPI teams.
  • 5 years of experience working in a regulated industry, ideally within the clinical diagnostics or biopharma fields bringing experience with FDA and other global regulatory environments.

  • Ability to manage both direct and indirect relationships to the function.
