DESCRIPTION

Michael Baker International is seeking an experienced Drainage Designer for our Detroit, Michigan location. Under limited supervision, plans, designs and analyzes drainage, hydrologic and hydraulic data on civil engineering projects such as bridges, tunnels, roadways, dams and a variety of drainage structures.


  • Assist in preparing complex studies, construction documents, drawings, maps, reports, details and supporting documentation
  • Prepares quantities and construction costs estimates
  • Assist in preparing detailed and complex reports detailing inspections, tests conducted and results
  • Develop drainage reports that address sound engineering practice as well as local requirements
  • Visit work sites as needed
  • Communicates with supervisor and clients regarding project issue
  • Develops junior staff locally and in offices within the Great Lakes Region
  • Defines scope, schedule and budgets requirements for projects
  • Provide input and support strategy for proposals as needed
  • Support marketing efforts
  • Maintain task budgets and schedules
  • Prepare permit information for clients
  • Willingness to travel on occasion
  • Attends clients meetings when necessary
  • Culvert Hydraulic Analysis and sizing culverts
  • Other duties as assigned

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS


  • Two-year technical degree in Engineering or related field
  • 7-10 years of related experience
  • Knowledge of Road and Drainage Design manuals and design standards
  • Proficient in highway design software, including but not limited to:

    • Microstation, InRoads, Geopak drainage
    • HEC RAS
    • HY-8
    • TR-55
    • Storm CAD

  • Understanding of

    • Rational Method
    • SCS method
    • NRCS Methodology
    • Bernoulli's equation
