Our Midwest, Rockies & California Operations are seeking an experienced leader to serve as Midwest Energy Practice Lead to lead and further grow our environmental and engineering practice in the Midwest. This role will also support a variety of projects from concept to completion in a dynamic consulting environment. The preferred location for this strategic role is Minneapolis, MN. We would also consider Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana or some other Midwest location.

Initially this Midwest Energy Practice Lead will focus on further growth of Tetra Tech's Energy Practice. This practice includes routing, siting, engineering and permitting of renewable facilities, electric power generation, electric transmission systems and substations, natural gas pipelines and compressor stations, and other related energy facilities.

This visionary candidate will assist Operations, Technical and Initiative Program Leads to lead and further establish the strategic direction and growth of our Midwest practice. Our ideal candidate will have the experience and proven track record of building teams and winning work with the opportunity to develop and expand our team, service areas and footprint in the Midwest. Our Midwest Energy Practice Lead plays a critical role in leading the engagement of multi-discipline staff within a large footprint to drive employee engagement across multiple business units.

Responsibilities:

Business Development:


  • Sustain and grow our current Midwest project workload, staff retention, environmental and engineering services and clients.
  • Further develop and maintain our Midwest Strategic Plan for the growth and delivery of environmental and engineering services within our Midwest footprint.
  • Further develop and expand Tetra Tech's energy practice in the Midwest through collaboration and an integrated services approach by partnering with Operations and Energy Initiative Program Leaders.
  • Lead client marketing and business development activities which consists of proposal development, cost estimates, technical presentations, trade show attendance, client meetings and the development of marketing materials.
  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship with coworkers, clients, subcontractors and project stakeholders.
  • Client management and development by identifying target clients, actively market and develop new clients in coordination with Operations Management and Practice Program Leads.

Strategic Thinking:


  • Identify trends and work with Operations and Initiative Program Leaders to develop a long-term market strategy.
  • Identify new service offers and sectors as well as clientele in response to changes in the market.
  • Collaborate with other Tetra Tech Operating Units to diversify markets and service areas.

Leadership :


  • Working closely with Operations Management, Initiative Program Leaders, and other Business Unit Leaders to deliver safe, profitable, and sustainable projects and services for our clients.
  • Develop a team of multi-discipline environmental and engineering staff through coaching and mentoring to expand our Midwest client base and service areas to provide competitive and profitable services and projects.
  • Direct and manage marketing and business development activities in the Midwest through collaboration and building intercompany relations with other Tetra Tech Operating Units.
  • Provide leadership for project teams by building and motivating team members to meet project goals, adhering to their responsibilities and project milestones.

Environmental and Engineering:


  • Perform environmental and engineering consulting-related activities supporting the development, routing and siting analysis, engineering design and permitting of energy projects.
  • Manage multi-disciplinary teams to complete projects on time and on budget.
  • Manage workload for the Midwest staff (resource allocation, proposals, deliverables, QA/QC, and backlog forecasting).
  • Serve as a Project Manager where you will manage technical projects, engage with clients to identify new work opportunities, prepare proposals and cost estimates, establish and formulate technical approaches, and direct project teams.
  • Conduct or oversee permitting and resource studies (e.g., wildlife biology, wetlands, cultural resources) associated with project permitting.
  • Set and continually manage project and operational expectations while delegating and managing deliverable with team members and stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • B.S. in engineering, environmental sciences or related field of study.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years' experience leading project teams and managing technical staff under a Seller/Doer business model within environmental and engineering consulting firm.
  • Working knowledge of all aspects of environmental and engineering planning, design and construction related to energy facilities.
  • Working experience working with environmental, regulatory and land use agencies, such as: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Public Service Commissions (PSC) and/or Public Utility Commissions (PUC), state wildlife departments (such as Minnesota Department of Natural Resources), and State Historic Preservation Offices.
  • Proven ability to work in a diverse environment and collaborate across multiple areas in order to achieve a common business objective.
  • Experience selling >500K in revenues environmental and engineering services to new and existing clients in a Seller/Doer consulting services business model.
  • Interpersonal skills to influence and spur change, facilitate and enhance performance within a cross - functional environment.
  • Proven track record with business development, business management and oversight of office businesses.
  • Proven success in providing on leadership for project teams by building and motivating team members to meet project goals, adhering to their responsibilities and project milestones.
  • Efficient time management -handle multiple projects simultaneously and with minimal supervision, including prioritizing, organizing, and planning effectively to meet all deadlines.
  • Strong leadership, diplomatic and motivational teambuilding skills including the ability to lead up, across and down multiple business and technology organizations.
  • Proven ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment demonstrating teamwork, innovation and excellence.
  • Build and maintain relationships by engaging business leaders to establish credibility, solve problems, build consensus and achieve objectives.
  • Experience preparing and submitting budget proposals and recommending subsequent budget changes where necessary.
  • Experience in successfully leading projects and programs to on-time, on-schedule and within budget.
  • Experience leading, motivating and managing various project and program teams, including internal and external resources, while holding team accountable for performance.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) and presentation skills to convey technical information to clients and business and financial reports to management.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Current client relationships in the Midwest regional market.
  • Experience managing P&L, creating and maintaining budgets on an operational P&L level.
