Portfolio Manager, Infrastructure and Energy Principal Investments at Macquarie Global Services in New York, New York

Job Description:

The Asset Creation and Management team in IEG Americas is responsible for the technical and commercial implementation of the principal pipeline investment and management of technical and commercial risks/opportunities throughout the lifecycle of an investment after the investment decision has been made. Asset Creation performs technical and commercial oversight for the development, construction and operating risks of new deals and existing assets across the Americas. Asset Management performs overall oversight of the performance of the principal equity portfolio, executes asset management plans and ensures material issues and risks across the portfolio are managed to optimize investment performance.


As a Vice President, Portfolio Management, you will actively manage and report throughout the investment life cycle on Macquarie Capital's growing portfolio of principal investments in renewable energy, conventional energy, and infrastructure across the Americas.


You will be responsible for:



  • Working with Macquarie Capital's Asset Creation and investment teams across the investment lifecycle from pre-investment due diligence, post-close asset management, to divestment of assets

  • Leading the development and execution of the asset management plan, 3rd party service provider arrangements, and the investment governance structure prior to financial close

  • Managing the cash flow requirements of the assets, including drawdowns, disbursements, invoice payments, and equity funding requests, and oversee the financial performance of the assets

  • Reporting and providing analysis of the asset across the portfolio to various internal and external stakeholders and support Macquarie Capital and asset board members in the decision-making process

  • Developing and implementing operational and financial controls, and governance structure that are fit-for-purpose and comply with Macquarie requirements

  • Overseeing asset level management teams and working with management teams to ensure best practice is implemented in terms of accounting, financial & risk management and financial reporting and tax filing

  • Monitoring asset compliance with project financing, tax equity documents and other key project agreements and lead amendment, waiver and consent structuring, legal documentation and approval process with the lenders and tax equity providers

  • Looking for opportunities to optimize investment cost structure and streamline asset management processes and functions

  • Developing and managing relationships with co-investors, SPV management team, project finance lenders, tax equity investors and internal stakeholders

  • Mentoring and providing guidance to junior staffs to enhance their skill sets and promote development


To be successful in this role, you will have:



  • 6-10 years of experience in asset management or portfolio management of energy principal investments or project finance

  • A degree in a relevant discipline such as Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Economics, Law or Engineering

  • Familiarity with best practice for financial reporting, risk management, and asset governance along with a strong understanding of material project agreements, cash flow modeling, project financing structure and documentation, tax equity, hedging requirement, and the related accounting

  • Strong experience of the energy sector including renewable and conventional power and/ or infrastructure asset class

  • Proven commercial and business judgement skills

  • A natural aptitude at problem solving and critical thinking with a proven ability to multi-task and work accurately in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, detail-oriented, and expert-level proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word

  • Fluency in spoken and written English (fluency in Spanish a plus).
