The Role

Reporting to the EHS Manager, you will be proving exemplary customer service to our clients.

As part of your specific responsibilities, in the following areas, you will:


  • Exemplify safety leadership to all levels of the organization - coach and mentor other leaders

  • Lead and develop the Safety Department to be a trusted partner to deliver health and safety programs and procedures that meet compliance requirements and corporate objectives.

  • Drive creation, development, and implementation of a plant fire brigade staffed with trained and competent volunteers.

  • Accountable for the development, implementation, maintenance, monitoring, and assurance of the following programs to meet compliance requirements and corporate objectives:

    • Health and safety programs and procedures (including Respiratory Protection, Hearing Conservation, Fall Protection, Confined Space Permits, Hot Work Permits, Gas Testing, Exposure Monitoring, and HAZCOM)

    • Process Safety programs and procedures (PSM, PHA, MOC, PSSR)

    • EHS training

    • Incident reporting and investigations

    • Health and safety audits (including insurance audits)

    • Regulatory and internal health and safety reporting requirements



  • Maintain internal (Par EHS Council) and external networks with regulators (WADOSH), industrial associations (WSPA, AFPM). Contractors, and support organizations (TFD)

  • Ensure communication and awareness of health and safety hazards and risks to leadership within the refinery and with Par corporate.

The Opportunity

The Safety Manager is responsible to lead U.S. Oil & Refining Co.'s Safety Department to drive the health and safety culture at the refinery toward the goal of zero incidents. The role is accountable for the development, implementation and coordination of refinery emergency response, health and safety, and process safety programs and policies. The Safety Manager reports to the Vice President & Refinery Manager and serves as a member of the Leadership Team.

Qualifications

To meet the basic qualification for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. To be a good fit for the (Safety Manger opportunity, you will have:


  • BA/BS in occupational safety & health, engineering or a related field is desired.

  • Professional certification (e.g., CSP, CIH) is preferred.

  • 15 years' refining/petrochemical experience is preferred.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in industrial health and safety role is required.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a diverse team within an organization with multiple departments and competing priorities.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and lead culture change with all levels and departments within an organization

  • Working knowledge of general health and safety regulations and their application in the refining industry. Experience complying with Washington DOSH regulations is desired

  • General knowledge of process safety regulations and their application in the refining industry. Experience complying with Washington PSM regulations is a plus

  • Good oral and written communication skills

  • This individual must be an effective communicator and plays a key role engaging on health and safety matters with all levels of the organization.
