Position Summary:

As a member of the production control team, you will be responsible for the daily management of a team of production planners. You will be responsible for maintaining a strong connection to the manufacturing management team and the supply chain team. You will bring a deep understanding of the manufacturing processes and value stream flow and will provide guidance on scheduling, prioritization, and exception management to the manufacturing planners. The production planning manager is responsible for master scheduling, production planning/coordination, shop scheduling and dispatching, material requirements, planning systems, work-in-process tracking, including WIP tracking through outside processing activities, and production planning performance reporting. The planning manager will drive continuous improvement of planning and scheduling processes, seeking to implement best in class planning practices at Dexcom.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Oversee production planning activities within the organization.

  • Determine production requirements based on plant capacity and production specifications.

  • Oversee workflow plans and schedules for production departments.

  • Monitor production status and ensure timely delivery.

  • Identify delays and accordingly adjust schedules to meet deadlines.

  • Assist in production risk assessment and mitigation activities.

  • Notify downstream customers of any delays and shortages.

  • Support the maintenance of optimal inventory levels

  • Ensure accurate and realistic planning horizons

  • Troubleshoot the MPS and review outputs for accuracy

  • Maintain key planning work center metrics and communicate updates to cross functional teams

  • Produce reports and metrics to facilitate planning

  • Evaluate current planning processes and recommend improvements.

  • Assist in new product introduction projects.

  • Conduct daily meetings to keep track of production schedules.

  • Resolve production issues and escalate unresolved issues to management promptly.

  • Assist in employee hiring, training, performance evaluation, retention, and termination activities.

Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree from 4 year college or university, preferably Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering degree

  • 8+ years of prior production planning, scheduling and production control experience in a manufacturing facility required, preferably in medical device industry

  • 4+ years of management experience

  • Experience in implementing process improvements in a manufacturing environment

  • Thorough knowledge of ERP System design, function, and operation

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

  • Thinks outside the box, challenges work processes, and helps to create the vision for planning

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Prior participation in or leadership of an ERP system transformation

  • Certification in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM)

  • Lean Manufacturing experience

Travel Required:

Up to 25%

Directly supervises employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this area. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Language Skills: Must be able to communicate effectively in English. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
