O500 and Industry Verticals Marketing Director

DESCRIPTION:

The Over 500 and Industry Verticals Buyer Group Marketing Director is responsible for driving growth and earnings through the development and deployment of business and marketing strategies. Cigna's O500 Segment (the 501 - 5000 regional employer buyer group), Government & Education as well as Hospital Verticals represent significant membership and earnings for the enterprise. These employer groups are diverse, complex, competitive, challenging and price sensitive. The marketing team is continually challenged to drive business plans and strategies as well as identify ways to differentiate Cigna and provide B2B and B2B2C programs that effectively arm the Sales team for success.

The Marketing Director will contribute to the development of the O500 and Industry Verticals business strategy; drive on-going decision making in alignment to the strategy; identify opportunities for marketing new and existing solutions; build market-facing communications; define market research needs; direct competitive intelligence and lead client and customer acquisition strategies to retain and cross-sell business.

This position will report to the Managing Director, Marketing for U.S. Commercial markets and be closely aligned to support the Vice President, Commercial markets, the President / General Manager Industry Verticals business and their respective leadership teams.

This role requires a strong strategic mindset, ability to work with and influence functional business partners, cross-segment marketing and Centers of Excellence (CoE) partners, as well as an ability to operate in a dynamic and sometimes ambiguous environment. Candidates will possess strong business acumen, as well as strategic/systemic thinking and decision making capabilities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Support each business and Buyer Group's annual U.S. Business strategic planning process in support of growth goals including revenue, customer growth, earnings and refresh/update throughout the year.

  • Drive the development and execution of each business and Buyer Group's overall value proposition, market position and voice to clients, brokers and customers. Build the business marketing communications plan.

  • Partner with Marketing COEs to execute marketing plans and programs.

  • Partner with the Prospecting team to drive innovative, client acquisition programs and measure results.

  • Partner with the marketing analytics teams to measure all programs and report program KPIs.

  • Work with leadership and subject matter experts to create differentiating content and thought leadership to enhance each business and Buyer Group's image and position in key markets with customers, clients and brokers.

  • Acts as trusted advisor to business leadership.

  • Manage multi-million dollar budget for business and Buyer Group program assets.

  • Demonstrate proactive approach in bringing marketing solutions to the business.


  • Identify and leverage best practices, market insights and actionable information across each business for success.

  • Partner with the Market Research and Competitive Intelligence COEs to drive general market and competitor intelligence.

  • Coordinate with Brand to identify and execute synergistic opportunities.


  • Direct design of qualitative and quantitative market research studies in support of the Business and Buyer Group growth goals.

  • Effectively lead a diverse internal team and manage external agencies to achieve results on investment.

  • Develop a high performing, multi-functional team that directly impacts achievement of the business and growth results.

  • Ensures strong succession plans across team through selection of top talent, robust development plans and stretch assignments.

IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL OFFER:


  • MBA or Master's degree in Marketing or equivalent field; Advanced degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 10-15 years of marketing and business strategy experience, ideally in connection with strategic planning, top line growth, market or product management.

  • Highly developed strategic thinking capabilities.

  • Demonstrated success in creating and achieving business goals.

  • Experience managing multiple priorities and executing strategy/initiatives within time constraints, budget and quality standards.

  • Superior facilitation skills, as well as oral and written communications.

  • Highly developed executive presence to negotiate and influence senior leaders and partners across the organization.

  • Leadership in driving organizational alignment and change.

  • Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals after suitable research and analytics have been conducted.

  • Ability to work effectively in dynamic, rapidly changing, team-based environment across multiple functions.

  • Experience in producing marketing communications programs across various media.
