The Division of Surgical & Translational Sciences in the Department of Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking an Associate Professor, Appointment Stream and Administrative Director of the Central Laboratories of the Department of Surgery, to provide operational management, oversight and guidance for the divisions overall program and members. This position requires a unique individual that possesses both an extensive university research administration background as well as a strong background in immunology and bench research. Reporting to the Vice Chair of Research, with accountability to the Chairman, this individual will liaise with the division's executive administrator, principal investigators, co-investigators, physician-scientists, clinical coordinators; as well as University faculty, to assure successful planning, management, and analysis of department budgets, procurement, program development, human resources, facilities management and regulatory compliance to maximize the operational potential of the division. Individual will provide first-line problem solving for program operation and personnel, troubleshoot potential barriers to mission success and develop and implement new policy per division and university protocols.

Requirements: PhD, MD/PhD or MD plus at least 4 years of university research administration and history of success as a laboratory researcher. The incumbent must possess outstanding organizational skills, be very detail-oriented, a flexible and strong communicator (both in writing and in person), and should possess a high degree of emotional intelligence, enabling seamless work with faculty and leadership at all levels within the University. Experience with supervision/training of graduate students, post-docs and technical staff is also important. Prior experience with collaborations involving clinical investigators, clinical coordinators, physician-scientists and/or surgeons desirable. Qualified candidates will be expected to provide supervision and leadership, meet deadlines and to effectively communicate and exchange information across various levels.
