Defense & Security

CAE's Defense & Security business unit focuses on helping prepare its customers to develop and maintain the highest levels of mission readiness. CAE is a world-class training systems integrator offering a comprehensive portfolio of training centers, training services and simulation products across the air, land, naval and public safety market segments. The D&S business unit serves its global defense and security customers through regional operations in Canada, the United States/Latin America, Europe/Africa, and Asia-Pacific/Middle East; all of which leverage the full breadth of CAE's capabilities, technologies and solutions.

CAE is a global leader in the development and delivery of integrated live, virtual, and constructive (LVC) training solutions for defense forces. Most militaries leverage a combination of live training on actual platforms, virtual training in simulators, and constructive training using computer-generated simulations. The solutions provided by CAE's Defense and Security business unit typically include a combination of training services, simulation products and software tools designed to cost effectively maintain and enhance safety, efficiency, mission readiness and decision-making capabilities.

Summary

CAE is seeking an experienced VP&GM, Solutions who will be responsible to lead the CAE USA Solutions P&L which consists of Mission Solutions, Training Services, and Training Centers. The VP&GM, Solutions will help shape the vision and strategy for the CAE USA Solutions business. With an eye on continued growth, this position will actively lead one of three P&Ls in D&S during a post-acquisition environment ensuring quick adaption of "Best of Breed" structures, practices and policies to support the projected expansion targets in growing this $500M+ P&L business. Consequently, the VP&GM, Solutions will be an experienced and exceptionally well-rounded business executive with a focus on customer relationships, solid financial acumen, and operational savviness. The position will report direct line to the Group President Defense & Security.

Specific Responsibilities


  • Guide and direct an organization including 4 direct reports and ~1,700 overall personnel in the post acquisition integration, development, growth, and financial aspects of the organization's newly established Solutions group including Mission Solutions, Training Services and Training Centers

  • Lead the development of CAE USA's Strategic Plan for the Solutions group, integrated with Defense & Security's overall plan, and launch major initiatives to realize results over time

  • Oversee development, layout, budget, construction and move/consolidation into the new 300,000+ sq ft facility in Tampa. Currently in process and scheduled for move-in Summer of 2023

  • Partner with the Vice Presidents, Operations and Engineering to assist with facility re-organization and manufacturing efforts

  • Plan, direct and control activities, and initiatives of the operation to accomplish budgeted financial objectives

  • Plan and prepare short-term and long-range plans and budgets based on Defense & Security's goals and growth objectives

  • Responsible for customer satisfaction by ensuring adherence to contractual requirements for quality and schedule performance

  • Responsible for proposal preparation in support of marketing initiatives and goals

  • Create the structure and processes necessary to manage CAE USA Solutions current activities and its projected growth

  • Develop and install procedures and controls to promote communication and adequate information flow within the organization

  • Ensure that all organization activities and operations are carried out in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and laws governing business operations

  • Provide expertise and leadership with joint ventures, strategic partnerships, and mergers and acquisitions Identify, evaluate, and resolve complex business issues in a collaborative manner through cross-functional business teams

Executive Management


  • Serves as a member of the Executive Leadership Team of the Defense & Security Business Unit

  • Participates in key decisions pertaining to strategic initiatives and operational excellence

Team Management

  • Manages, mentors, and develops a team of 4 executives within a multi-location environment

Professional Experience/Qualifications


  • Visible, engaged leader highly focused on developing the growth, customer relationships, and profitability of CAE

  • 15+ years of extensive leadership experience acquired with a government contractor. Defense and aerospace industry preferred. Prior military service preferred

  • Graduate degree in business or technical discipline with proven experience and demonstrated leadership ability

  • Demonstrated track record of successfully leading a multi-site P&L of at least a $500M+ in a public company preferred

  • Experience working in companies dealing with government contracts and international multi-site operations. Special Security Agreement experience a plus

  • Must currently hold and maintain a US Department of Defense Security Clearance, TS/SCI desired

  • Expert in business development, merger and acquisition, advocacy, and operational effectiveness

  • High level of integrity and ability to inspire others through transformation that drives business results

  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community

  • Effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or the CAE USA Board of Directors

  • Works well in a highly team-oriented environment

  • Skilled business strategist and tactician, visionary with the skills to translate concepts and ideas into results

  • Business person with the ability to make sound business decisions in a highly competitive, fast moving environment

  • Confident, self-reliant, with a high degree of initiative and personal drive using a positive aggressive style

  • Global perspective and the ability to adapt quickly to different cultures with an appreciation for diverse added value perspectives

  • Flexible, strategic team player with high integrity and ethical standards

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents

  • Digital savviness - ability to recognize and act on evolving technology trends impacting the business

  • Ability to travel on a regular basis
