Job Description:

Nemours, a leading internationally recognized children's health system, is seeking a Part-time Intern for the Office of Child Health Policy and Advocacy, located at 1201 15th St, NW, Washington, DC. Nemours' mission goes beyond the clinical care we provide in our two children's hospitals, primary and specialty care practices and clinics. We provide an integrated spectrum of research, advocacy, education and preventive services in the communities we serve.

The internship/practicum will support our national policy and advocacy agenda, which is focused primarily on population health, health system transformation, telehealth, pediatric research, mental and behavioral health, health equity, early care and education, and federal appropriations. While the intern will work mainly on the policy and advocacy team, there are opportunities to work with other teams within the office on different projects - should this be of interest.

The paid Intern will work 16-20 hour per week. The internship will run from August 2021 through December 2021. Remote work options may be available.

Duties:


  • Conducting legislative and policy research
  • Attending webinars and conference calls and preparing summaries
  • Drafting brief policy documents, including background documents, issue briefs, letters to Congress, regulatory comments or other materials for meetings on Capitol Hill and with the Administration
  • Attending virtual briefings, hearings, markups, forums and meetings both independently and with Nemours staff
  • Assisting in the preparation for special events, such as congressional briefings, convenings and events with Members of Congress
  • Drafting communications regarding policy and advocacy activities for internal and external audiences

We are seeking a candidate who has a master's degree or is a master's program/practicum student. The candidate must possess the following skills:

  • Interest in child health policy and advocacy
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments/projects
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Familiarity with the federal legislative and regulatory process, preferred
