RHD Boston is looking for individuals interested in working Full-Time at our residential programs as Direct Support Professionals.

Due to the circumstances surrounding the outbreak of COVID-19 and temporary closures ofday support programs, many of the individuals we serve are home for the majority of each day. We are looking for skilled Direct Support Professionals interested in working day shifts between the hours of 7am and 3pm in a temporary basis, as well as regular day and overnight shifts [3p to 11p and 11p to 9am].

The Direct Support Professional is responsible for safety and supervision of our consumers with Intellectual Developmental Disabilities, Behavioral health histories to facilitate healthy and socially acceptable behaviors while living in community-based sites. This position will coordinate with clinical staff, implement residentially based interventions and assist the clients in achieving their clinical assignments. The DSP is responsible for fulfilling the obligations as outlined in the client's program plan. The DSP will prompt or assist, as necessary, to ensure the clients participate in the activities of daily living, in both the home and the community. A commitment to theRHDvalues should be demonstrated as job duties are performed.



Responsibilities/Duties




  • Develops and maintains a therapeutic relationship with individuals


  • Participates in the design, implementation and monitoring of ISP's


  • Follows clinical programs as outlined in individual's service plan, takes data as required


  • Provides guidance, support and direction as needed


  • Models and advocates for individuals' rights and choices


  • Communicates with supervisors and management team regarding and individual program issues



  • Assists individuals with :



    • Food preparation


    • Household cleaning and maintenance


    • Personal health and hygiene needs


    • Personal or house shopping


    • Home and community-based outings and trainings


    • Personal fund accounts


    • Banking




If at any time an individual is unable to assist in the above, staff are responsible for completing the activities:


  • Administers medication as per Medication Administration Policy (MAP)

  • Understands and follows emergency procedures

  • Encourages individuals to choose and participate in meaningful activities

  • Follows all procedures outlined for handling individual and/or petty cash funds

  • Insures health and safety of all individuals served



Required Experience



* Basic computer and internet literacy with the ability to utilize applications like emails, time recording and other programs to enter and retrieve data as necessary to perform the essential functions of the job.

* Prior experience in the human services field is preferred but not required

* Valid driver's license



Required Education



High School diploma and GED preferred; for international students secondary education preferred but not required

Required Qualifications




  • Must have current First Aid Certification

  • Must have a valid driver's license

  • Required to complete CPR certification within one month of hire

  • Required to complete Medication Administration (MAP license) Certification within three months of hire

RHD Boston provides residential, day, and individual supports to men and women with developmental disabilities in the Greater Boston area.Programs are located in Greater Boston [Roslindale, West Roxbury, Hyde Park, Waltham, Walpole, Arlington, Medford].
