POSITION SUMMARY:


The network security engineer III is responsible for the design, implementation and monitoring of network security solutions, including network security testing and implementation of new products, technologies and/or improvements to existing and current products. This position will also support the setup and maintenance of a data center and production environment to ensure proper security policies and practices, including penetration/ vulnerability testing and remediation, are implemented and enforced.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


* Work under the direction of the IT Director to maintain security devices in managing firewalls, content filters, NIDS, proxy servers, HIDS, and packet capture devices. Identify gaps and recommend solutions for remediation.


* Plan, configure, implement, and maintain all security platforms and any other related software, to include but not limited to firewalls, anti-virus, routers, Web Proxy's, Anti-SPAM, switches, intrusion detection or intrusion prevention, firewalls, cryptography systems, SIEM, and MDM.


* Research, evaluate and recommend new technologies to augment data and network security. Work towards constant improvement of the company's technology infrastructure.


* Plan, appraise and evaluate ongoing assessment of antivirus, application control, firewall, SIEM, VPN, SSL, intrusion detection or intrusion prevention and other network component policies.


* Ensure network security best practices are executed through auditing: router, change control, switch, firewall configurations etc.


* Responsible for periodic vulnerability testing, and lead remediation projects as necessary.


* Articulate and document systems and methodologies, respond to security-related events and support in remediation efforts.


* Maintain network security devices to enable pro-active defense of networks, providing protective monitoring at multiple locations and ingress points.


* Work with network infrastructure teams in designing and implementing data centers, backup sites and in disaster recovery planning and implementation.


* Mentor and train team members as required.


* Collaborate with software, engineering and other departments on security-related items/projects and any other duties as assigned.



EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:


* Bachelor's degree or relevant work experience.


* A minimum of seven years working in production data center environments.


* Cisco / security certifications a plus.


* Hands on experience with cybersecurity infrastructure that includes the following:


* network security and networking technologies and with system, security and monitoring tools


* firewalls, intrusion detection systems, anti-virus software, authentication systems, log management, content filtering


* IDS, IPS, SIEM, DNS, routers, switches, load balancers, endpoint protection


* Cisco FTD's and security appliances (preferred)


* IT Security frameworks such as NIST, SOC, ISO 270001 etc.


* securing, implementing and managing systems and networks mixing Windows, Linux, Unix, and Mac OS devices


* Data Center environment



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


* Expert level understanding of protocols such as DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP/HTTPS, SMTP, FTP, TELNET etc.


* Advanced knowledge of IT Risk Management and Compliance management theory/practices, laws and auditing principles.


* Knowledge of best current security practices, firewalls, network administration, application/web fundamentals, IP transit, routing protocols and all aspects of networking needed to support the required SLAs.


* Possess networking background with an understanding of switching, network routing as well as skills in managing and supporting firewalls.


* Understanding of all layers of the OSI model.


* Thorough understanding of virtualization technologies and hands on experience with VMware.


* Familiarity with web related technologies (Web applications, Web Services, Service Oriented Architectures) and of network/web related protocols.


* Familiarity with SAN/NAS storage infrastructure.


* Ability to work independently or with a team as required.


* Problem solving skills and ability to work under pressure.


* Strong verbal and written communication skills.


* Strong understanding of Active Directory, Microsoft operation systems and Linux.


* Ability to work flexible hours when needed, including outside normal business hours.


* Ability to be on call 24 hour a day, 7 days a week, with short notice to respond to emergencies.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


This position requires the ability to work standing up in data centers, data closets and other secure environments, along with the ability to lift moderately heavy equipment when required.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:


Office based with some travel between office sites.
