Director Enterprise Applications Customer, Portfolio Management

Responsibilities
 

Planning and Execution


  • Partners with stakeholders to align the portfolio with strategic goals


  • Guides the selection, prioritization, balancing and termination of portfolio initiatives to ensure alignment with organizational priorities


  • Continuously reviews and optimizes the portfolio to ensure agreed timelines are achieved


  • Resolves resource constraints and conflicts that affect the execution of the portfolio


  • Works with PMO Excellence team to ensure the smooth running of the portfolio lifecycle


  • Coaches and manages a team of Project and Program Managers for optimal performance


  • Plays a consultative role to help put in place the appropriate people, process, and tools and coaching members of the team as needed to optimize the efficiency of the project team
    Conducts portfolio  review meetings with executives


Stakeholder Management and Communication


  • Works with stakeholders to shape the portfolio and influences decision making to maximise return on investment


  • Provides timely insight into the performance of the portfolio


  • Communicates portfolio direction or strategic changes


  • Responsible for providing objective and comprehensive input to senior leadership and executive decision makers


  • Solicits stakeholder input to define comprehensive improvement plans that are consistent and drive standardization across regions


  • Influences and collaborates with multiple stakeholders of multiple portfolios and projects to ensure effective release, change management and that support plans are defined and communicated


  • Creates and drives broad stakeholder communications concerning portfolio status and budget utilization


Management Reporting


  • Provides key stakeholders with insights including execution and benefits metrics, capacity and capability and risks and issues that may impact performance


  • Facilitates monthly operational reviews of operational performance and roadmap status


  • Responsible for reporting overall status to IT senior leadership and executives, taking remediation action, when applicable



Resource and Budget Management
 


  • Provides IT Resource Capacity and Utilisation recommendations throughout the Portfolio Intake Process 


  • Manages the Portfolio cost center for CAPEX and OPEX spend


  • Ensures project and program financial controls are in place


  • Agrees changes to project budget with the portfolio


  • Responsible for Recruitment/procurement of talent


  • Works closely with cross functional Leads & Project Managers to track resource allocation and utilization for portfolio projects


  • Identifies potential budget shortfalls and escalate proactively


  • Manages and/or escalates issues, as needed


  • Provides input to the annual budget planning process relating to project/support/SW maintenance/ Renewals/purchases/etc. for his/her areas of responsibility


  • Review and optimization of budget allocation


Risk Management

  • Maintains oversight (and intervenes in) portfolio-level risks that may impact performance and the delivery of expected benefits

People Development


  • Leads by example, models the Equinix Culture and Values


  • Responsible for succession planning recommendations and contributing to and driving the people development strategy


  • Responsible for performance management of team members


  • Responsible for the GPS process including assessments and Total Rewards allocations of direct reports and reviewing and approving manager recommendations


  • Responsible for talent development, including quarterly conversations, career pathways conversations and individual development/growth plans


  • Is accountable for the performance and results of direct reports and maybe a larger or multiple teams, perhaps global


  • Actively contributes to the Knowledge Management and Community of Practice


  • Drives innovation and provides thought leadership across the teams, rewards innovation, and helps communicate new ideas across teams


Technology Project Methodologies


  • Evangelizes methodologies developed by PMO Excellence team other departments


  • Defines and communicates technology program management framework


  • Obtains consensus among VPs and executives on project methodology, process, and templates


Process/Tools/Policies/Standards


  • Ensures departmental process/policies /standards are aligned with  priorities


  • Defines process goals and measurement standards to ensure compliance


  • Optimizes processes to ensure continuous process improvement to drive process quality and productivity


  • Ensures consistency and efficiencies across standards and policies


  • Evangelizes new tools developed in partnership with  PMO Excellence team


Road Map/Planning


  • Responsible for leading strategic planning, influencing and driving prioritization of initiatives with executive stakeholders


  • Responsible for developing and communicating a roadmap of projects and initiatives in support of stakeholder priorities to all levels of the organization


Review/Approvals/Escalations/Issues Resolution


  • Leads Senior Leadership and Executive level escalations


  • Drives creation and delivery of executive decision making cycles, with an objective and comprehensive presentation of issues, business impacts, options with pros/cons, budgetary estimates, and recommendations


Qualifications


  • 10+  years PMO experience, with demonstrated experience in benefits management and realisation


  • 5+ years experience leading Agile transformation and Agile portfolio management across enterprise, well versed in talent, tools, governance models, project/financial planning and reporting required for execution


  • Deep understanding of current and emerging project, program and portfolio management best practices and how other fast-growth enterprises are employing them to drive digital and data business


  • Demonstrated ability in building IT balanced scorecards, KPI management, and operational reporting


  • A distinctive blend of business, IT, financial and communication skills


  • Associate's degree preferred


Desired Skills


  • Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 12 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 8 years’ experience; or equivalent experience


  • Expertise in one or more project management methodologies, preferably PMI and Agile


  • Experience working alongside executive staff to achieve organizational goals


  • Strong validated experience with leadership, business insight, problem solving, critical thinking, project management, and analytical skills


  • Six Sigma background, a plus
