Summary

 

The Plant Manager is a key member of the management team providing oversight and guidance for all employees to exceed expectations in safety, quality, material yields, labor efficiencies, continuous improvement, customer satisfaction, and all production related activities/metrics to assure the operation’s safety and financial goals are achieved. 

 

Responsibilities


  • Reinforce the company’s high standard for working safe by providing positive reinforcement when appropriate, identifying and correcting hazards, and holding employees accountable for unsafe actions.

  • Provides the vision, leadership, and coaching to develop supervisor and employee skills to improve operation performance and collaboration between work centers.

  • Fosters an environment of engagement and retention through recognition and feedback.

  • Drives positive change using continuous improvement tools, teamwork, and shop floor metrics in safety, quality, cost, inventory, delivery, and housekeeping.

  • Work closely with Op Ex, HR, Sales, Customer Service, and Finance to gain insight into opportunities and resolve issues impacting operations.

  • Participate in forecasting operating costs for materials, labor, supplies, shipping, and repairs.

  • Monitor overall plant performance for safety, production, quality, and delivery requirements.

Skills, Knowledge, and Ability Requirements


  • College degree, business or engineering emphasis preferred. 

  • Four or more years of progressive experience managing multiple labor-intensive work centers in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills to develop and maintain operational excellence thru team building, planning, organization, delegation, collaboration, problem-solving, and perseverance.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with all levels of the business; including superiors, peers, direct reports, and employees.

  • Basic computer knowledge of Microsoft products and MRP systems.

  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and be flexible in working on multiple projects simultaneously. 

  • Excellent time-management skills with the ability to work independently with little supervision.

  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, and/or Quality Management Systems

  • Basic mechanical aptitude to understand equipment/machine processes, capabilities, limitations, and basic maintenance requirements.

  • Ability to learn and understand company financials: income statements, balance sheets, managing budgets and expenditures, marginal contributions, etc.
