Product Development Scientist, Agriculture



Position Summary:

The successful candidate for this position will support the development of new products and new test methods for the Agricultural Adjuvants market. As part of a diverse global team, the candidate will be responsible for the design and development of new formulations to improve the efficacy of crop protection applications and the design and implementation of new test methods to validate the efficacy of such new products and formulations. In this role, the candidate will work closely with customers and technologists within the industry to understand and address current needs for agricultural spray applications. The candidate will assist customers directly and provide support to them in collaboration with our sales and marketing organizations, as well as support internal functions including manufacturing, quality, and product stewardship.



Job Description:

Responsibilities:


  • Design and development of new adjuvant products and formulations to improve the efficacy of crop protection applications

  • Design and development of new test methods and applications, validating the performance of new products and expanding our understanding about the products' performance and opportunities for improvement. Example of the methodology and instrumentation to be applied includes laser imaging for spray droplet sizing, evaluating active retention and absorption by spectroscopic and chromatographic methods, effect of nozzle and adjuvant technology on spray coverage, use of high speed photography to evaluate the droplet impaction profile

  • Design, analysis and optimization of laboratory research spray trials to evaluate experimental adjuvants

  • Support for manufacturing process design of new adjuvant formulations, and commercial product launch

  • Clear communication with customers and university research groups to demonstrate the utility of Momentive adjuvants in agricultural spray applications

  • Recommendation of testing protocols to evaluate the performance of adjuvants with various crop protection products

  • Organization of laboratory research and field trial data, which includes managing a field trial database on SharePoint

  • Generation of technical reports, product presentations, conference posters, and invention disclosures

  • Support the MarCom team in the preparation of external communications such as product data sheets, technical literature and case studies

  • Preparation and presentation of information on adjuvant technologies at symposiums, conferences, grower and specifier seminars

  • Preparation and presentation of technical data to customers, either in person or virtually



Additional Details:

Minimum Qualifications


  • Master or Ph.D. Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Agronomy or related science OR

  • B.S. Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Agronomy or a related science, and a minimum of 3 years of industry experience in product development, optimization, and testing

  • Demonstrated industrial experience with formulations, chemical analysis,and physical property characterization

  • Demonstrated industrial experience in developing and implementing novel test methods

  • Proven record of safe laboratory operations, design of experiments, and statistical analysis

  • Previous experience working in the Ag field is preferred but not required

Preferred Qualifications


  • Specific experience with agricultural formulation development

  • Experience working with surfactants

  • Working knowledge of agricultural spray applications, crop protection products, and field trial design and interpretation is desired.

This is a lab-based position, but domestic and international travel may be required from time to time up to 10%.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, crouch,twist, turn, lift. and move about the facility. Walking, walking on irregular surfacesand balancing will be required. Reaching, feeling, finger movement, grasping, hearing, sight and the ability to speak clearly will be required. Regularly, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 lbs. The ability to wear personal protective equipment; ability to pass a fit-test and wear a respirator is required for most positions.
