What you will do
Johnson Controls is searching for an innovative Mechanical Engineer within the Fire Detection Products organization. You will develop new fire detection products as well as support existing product lines. In this hands-on position you will work directly with sales, marketing, tooling and prototype suppliers, and manufacturing.

How you will do it


  • Develop next generation sensors, notification appliances, and fire alarm panel assemblies

  • Design innovative products with a focus on manufacturability and serviceability

  • Prove concepts through peer review, rapid prototyping, soft tooling, validation testing, and production launch readiness

  • Provide creative solutions to challenges that arise during new product development lifecycle

  • Participate in peer design reviews to ensure best design practices are followed

  • Lead improvement efforts on existing products and provide technical support to sales, marketing, and customers

  • Assume mechanical responsibility within cross-functional engineering teams

  • Initiate and execute ECOs following R&D departmental procedures

What we look for

Required


  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • Minimum 1-3 years related work experience

  • Experience with injection molding, plastic part, and assembly design

  • Experience with sheet metal electronic packaging design

  • Experience with full lifecycle product development  

  • Competent with Pro/E Creo, SolidWorks or equivalent (experience in Windchill is a plus)

  • Strong organizational skills with a focus on short and long term deliverables

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Must be comfortable working in a cross functional team environment

Preferred


  • Experience with offshore tooling suppliers and production facilities

  • Understanding of agency certification requirements (UL, ULC, CE, CSFM, CSA, FCC)

  • Knowledge of engineered resins, metal finishes, and platings

  • Strong aptitude or desire to lead projects and teams

  • Consumer electronic design experience
