Job Title: Family Literacy Program - Adult Education Instructor
Position Summary:
This position provides classroom instruction to adults in a variety of adult education settings, in accordance with program and funding source policies and emerging best practices, using a variety of instructional strategies that engage program participants in learning. Instructors will also participate in all professional development, curriculum development, and student documentation practices per program policies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Attend new teacher training and orientation sessions
Implement the academic and workplace readiness curriculum in a manner consistent with the program design and state standards
Implement and model parenting and basic literacy strategies for students in alignment with the parenting curriculum.
Create a classroom environment characterized by respect and rapport that promotes a culture of learning
Adhere to admission, orientation and student placement policies.
Accommodate newly-enrolled students on an on-going open or managed enrollment basis
Develop an individualized educational plan /adaptation plan for each participant according to the needs of English language learners and low literacy students
Participate in orientation and evaluation for new students according to program guidelines as needed
Address each participant's current academic and social level of functioning by offering the appropriate level of challenge and guided practice for basic academic, social and life skills within a multi-level class
Administer monthly progress assessments using appropriate informal assessment methods
Manage student behavior and classroom procedures effectively
Work with case manager to report all information related to family goals, employment or training, including student case work as assigned
Identify and immediately refer to program coordinator and case manager any issues regarding classroom management, teacher, tutor or student concerns
Maintain the security and confidentiality of records in compliance with AIU, state and federal policies and regulations
Maintain accurate student records and submit them to the coordinator according to schedule
Accurately maintain daily attendance records and complete other clerical and data related responsibilities as assigned
Assist coordinator in the development of program policies and procedures which reflect funding agency guidelines, policies and procedures
Participate and support new staff orientation and teacher development as requested by coordinator
Participate and support teacher observation/evaluation processes including teaching performance and demonstrated support of program curriculum and methods
Assist other members of program staff, when requested, in the timely performance of their tasks
Participate in state mandated activities, including but not limited to Career Pathways and other state program initiatives, staff development, training or other activities that support program development as directed by the coordinator
Regularly attend scheduled staff meetings
Participate in procedures supporting emergency plans, as requested by coordinator
Monitor the inventory, use and distribution of instructional materials to students
Maintain policy for removing/borrowing materials from the Resource Room
Notify the coordinator when class materials or supplies are needed
Maintain a clean and orderly classroom, staff work areas and storage areas
Teach other classes in emergency staffing situations
Perform a variety of non-instructional responsibilities as needed and assigned, such as clerical, data collection and entry, curriculum development, case management, recruitment, training, and/or any additional housekeeping tasks related to the general operation of the Adult Education Program
Adhere to sick day and requests for time off policies and procedures
Perform non-instructional duties per directions from the program director
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree; Education or related field and a minimum of one (1) year teaching experience classroom-based or small group instruction
One (1) year experience in Adult Education and Early Childhood/Elementary Practices preferred
Good written/oral communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to handle multiple priorities
Ability to comply with the AIU Conduct policy
Additional Requirements:
Current Act 114, Act 34, Act 151 and NSOR Clearances required prior to an offer (Must be dated within 1 year of hire date).
School Personnel Health Record (Form H511.340) must be completed and received by Human Resources prior to hire date.

Schedule:
20 hours per week Evening classes at Carnegie 3 evenings, 2 for Adult Ed face-to-face, at the Carnegie Family Center and 1 day ILA at the Adult Education Center (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday) plus one extra session with students online on Thursdays. Position is available August 16, 2021
