Summary of Job Duties:

Summary:
The County Extension Agent - Agriculture conducts educational programs for county clientele in agriculture & 4-H youth. The agent works closely with a broad audience base to solicit support & participation within the county.

Duties:
Assists with county 4-H activities and competitive events. Assists with district and state level 4-H activities as needed. Works with county, district, and state fair personnel in conducting the livestock and judging shows.
Develops and implements annual agriculture plan of work based on issues identified by the Agriculture Advisory Committee. Conducts educational programs and demonstrations in commercial livestock and row crop agriculture that benefit the county agriculture clientele. Provides opportunities for educational programs and activities at the county, district, and state levels, including transportation of clientele to such activities as necessary. Provides educational information to leaders in organized groups that facilitate and assist in carrying out the county Extension agriculture program.
Develops grant applications for funding of club equipment purchases and assist with fundraising activities.

Maintains a thorough knowledge of the social, economic, political and cultural characteristics of the county and an effective liaison with local commodity leaders and agencies. Maintains an up-to-date and working knowledge of state Extension agriculture programs.

Maintains compliance of civil rights and knowledge of current rules and regulations. Plans and implements educational programs to target minorities to achieve 80% parity of participation in program areas by race and gender. Assures that groups worked with are open to the public. Maintains necessary records for civil rights compliance.

Utilizes Extension specialists and other appropriate subject matter resources to conduct county educational programs. Responsible for answering subject matter clientele calls and for farm visits to diagnosis and provide advisement as needed.

Utilizes sound evaluation techniques to measure impacts of the county agriculture programs. Reports impacts to the county agriculture advisory committee and county Extension Council. Reviews evaluation data from delivered programs and makes adjustments as needed to enhance future programs. Seeks advice from county and district supervisors.

Works with county advisory committee members in identifying and developing programs that meet the needs of county clientele. Assists with interpretative activities of the County Extension Council. Provides leadership in preparing and presenting relevant educational material for planning and updating the county agriculture plan of work. Works with 4-H club volunteer leaders in planning educational activities for the club youth members.



Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in agriculture or related area is required. Must have transportation for use on the job with liability insurance in effect.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of the organization, operation, philosophy, & objectives of the Cooperative Extension Service. Ability to plan & conduct programs without discrimination based on race, color, national origin, religion, gender, age, disability, marital or veteran status, or any other legally protected status. Ability to evaluate programs & recognize when they are not having the anticipated impact & take corrective actions to achieve the desired results. Knowledge of & ability to apply principles of management. Ability to work effectively with other Extension personnel, county leadership, & the general public. Ability to supervise county staff. Ability to recognize the need for counseling or disciplinary actions & take corrective action. Ability to speak & write clearly & communicate ideas effectively. Ability to work long & irregular hours & travel frequently.
