Smith's Engineering and Manufacturing teams for our Commercial Water Heaters and Boilers, a category where we are the industry leader with over 50%market share. This plant has 450+ employees in an 800,000+ sq ft building. This location hasearned the Lloyd B. Primary Function

We are looking for a Materials Supervisor that will report to our Materials Manager and supervise a group of approximately six Material Planners. This position will be responsible for the materials management function relating to the material planning and new product introduction processes to meet company objectives and customer requirements. This is a high-mix manufacturing environment with over 7000 SKU's and over 12,000 components includinga mix of internal, domestic, and internationalsuppliers.

Responsibilities


  • Maintain optimum inventory levels to ensure on-time deliveries meeting customer requirements while minimizing carrying costs and premium transportation charges.

  • Directs the write-offs of obsolescence and damaged inventory to maintain realistic valuation of goods-on-hand.

  • Coordinate with the Global Procurement and Transportation departments to schedule delivery of materials, supplies, equipment, and services according to requirements of the company's operations.

  • Understand, develop, and train planners on the use of reporting systems that relate to the materials function.

  • Directly responsible for understanding inventory supply and demand failures and successes and drive for minimization of failures.

  • Ensure that the company's established procedures are followed in connection with all materials department functions.

  • Responsible for the motivation and development of subordinates to optimize their performance and their personal and professional growth.

  • Responsible for establishing planning and materials processes and/or process improvements as necessary to facilitate continuous improvement and reduction in total inventory dollars month over month.

  • Responsible for establishing needed safety stock levels, inventory dollars budgets and delivery schedules to facilitate month over month inventory reductions and steady supply through vendors.

  • Continuously work with engineering and purchasing to reduce obsolescence and part number duplicity.

  • Direct yearly forecasting of raw materials to vendors.

  • Continuously drive improvement in KPIs and perform collaborative root cause analysis with planners to drive for corrective actions and implement mistake proof measures.

  • Direct, challenge, coach, and develop planning team to facilitate continued improvement and growth of planners and the organization.

  • Ability to analyze data and make quick decisions and implement short term and long term plans to improve and meet KPIs.

  • Coach and teach proper MRP and planning techniques as needed to planners.

  • Continuously work with suppliers to ensure steady state supply and discover and implement new methods to reduce lead time and on hand inventory levels.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Engineering, or similar field

  • 5+ years of experience in materials planning, production scheduling, or materials supervision

  • 3+ years of Supervisory/Leadership experience

  • 3+years' working knowledge of MRP

  • Proven track record for inventory reduction, discrepancy investigation and continuous improvement

  • Working knowledge of SAP preferred

  • APICS certification preferred
