This position is accountable for the provision of Early Head Start services in a home-based setting. This accountability includes providing home-based services to pregnant women, infants and toddlers, and families of young children to provide a conducive environment for the child's total development-socially, physically, emotionally, cognitively, nutritionally-and healthy well-being of the children and their families. Substitute for the EHS Teacher on an as-needed basis.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Schedule and provide weekly 90-minute home-based visit based on Early Head Start Performance Standards and Parents As Teachers Curriculum.


  • Plan and implement socialization groups as per the Early Head Start Standards, for a total of twenty-four sessions per year.


  • Complete initial screenings within 45 days in collaboration with parents and assist with early intervention referrals if needed.


  • Complete a family and partnership agreement for each family and provide necessary community resources, referrals and support as necessary.


  • Provide a variety of appropriate activities and experiences, which encourage interaction and skills that stimulate children to explore and express their creative abilities and promote physical development appropriate to the development level of each child.


  • Work with parents to help children acquire and use language as a means of communicating with others.


  • Complete all necessary forms using the web-based data system and assume responsibility for sending the monthly reports to the Early Head Start office. Observe and document specific skills of the children in order to complete the assessment tool (three times per year) and develop IPPs for each Early Head Start Child.


  • Establish a positive and productive relationship with families, providing them with resources and goal planning activities and follow up.


  • Recruit qualified community volunteers to serve as policy council representatives, tutors, coaches, and mentors for parents and to collect and distribute information/reading materials to support this effort.


  • Conduct monthly parent meetings in which parents are clustered from all program models. Plan activities at varying times of the day and week, including evenings and weekends, in order to meet the needs of families and encourage the participation of as many parents as possible.


  • Create an atmosphere of teamwork with all service areas of Early Head Start for the benefit of the Early Head Start child and his/her family.


  • Participate in required professional development training and activities.


  • Respond to other needs of the program as indicated by Early Head Start Director.


  • Substitute for center based staff on as needed basis in accordance with Early Head Start Teacher accountabilities.


Qualifications


  • B.A. /B.S. degree in Early Childhood/Child Development or a degree in a field related to early childhood education.

  • Knowledge and experience in working with parents, who have infants/toddlers and pregnant women.

  • Knowledge and experience in working with infants and toddlers and their families.

  • Knowledge of community resources related to parents, pregnant women, infants/toddlers physical and mental health.

  • Current criminal history clearance, child abuse clearance and FBI clearance required (Act 33/34/151).

  • Parents As Teachers (0-3) preferred.

  • Ability to travel.

  • Ability to comply with the AIU conduct policy.

  • Be able to sit on preschool-size chairs and the floor as necessary, kneel, squat, walk up and down stairs, and walk/run to implement services. Be able to sit in front of a computer or stand for long periods of time.

  • Be able to lift up to 50 pounds such as a preschool-age child and/or equipment and diapering/toileting as needed.

  • Be able to bend or twist at the neck and back.

  • Be able to model the use of large and small muscles in order to help facilitate development of gross and fine motor skills and target specific objectives in these areas by stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling and bending

  • Specific vision includes peripheral vision, close vision and color vision.
