Proficiency Levels:

Level I (Grade 48) - Entry level uses basic understanding of the field to perform job duties Works directly with more senior Teammates. Work is closely observed and reviewed.

Level II (Grade 49) - Performs more varied and difficult aspects of the job; may need some guidance on job duties; applies learning to recommend options to address unusual situations. Trains other Teammates as required.

Level III (Grade 50) - Successfully completes diverse tasks of the job; applies and enhances knowledge and skill in both usual and unusual issues; needs minimal guidance in addressing unusual situations. Trains other Teammates as required.

Level IV (Grade 51) - Performs without assistance; recognized as a resource to others: able to translate complex nuances to others; able to improve processes; focus on broad issues. Trains other Teammates as required.

Level V (Grade 52) - Performs independently; recognized as a resource to others: able to translate complex nuances to others; able to improve processes; focus on broad issues. Provides training to department members when required. Provides guidance to less senior Teammates in the department. Trains and mentors to other Teammates as required.

Staff (Grade 52)- Recognized as an expert and/or leader, guides, troubleshoots; has strategic focus; applies intensive and diversified knowledge and skill across or in leading multiple projects; demonstrates knowledge of trends in field; leads in developing new processes and/or capabilities and high impact projects. Uses advanced techniques; modifies or extends theories, precepts, and practices of own field and related disciplines. Provides training to department members when required. Provides guidance to less senior Teammates in the department. Trains and mentors to other Teammates as required.

Senior Staff (Grade 53)- Demonstrates all competences of Staff Engineer plus has technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating assignments. Plans and develops projects with significant company impact. Explores subject area, defines scope, selects problems for investigation, and identifies and develops novel concepts and approaches. Acts independently on technical matters, with administrative supervision, and assignments in terms of general objectives and limits.

Summary/Objective

Performs assignments designed to develop knowledge and abilities in all aspects of production of the computer hardware and software areas of the simulation products.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following duties are essential to the successful and satisfactory performance of this job. Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Responsible for the administration and maintenance of various operating systems across multiple platforms.

Responsible for setting up and maintaining the software file structure for each project.

Responsible for configuration management of the simulator software including setting up and maintaining the source control systems and performing software builds, packaging, and installation.

Supports the installation and implementation of device drivers for interfacing with hardware.

Responsible for supporting mathematical support library, systems utilities and debug packages under the direction of a more senior engineer.

Evaluates hardware and software to be installed on production and development computer systems under direction of a more senior engineer.

Maintain consistency and quality of simulation software packages and its implementation on production and development computer systems.

Support software developers and applications engineers in the programming and debugging of simulation software.

Assist with documenting Policies and Procedures to be used by training center technicians and simulation software developers.

Assist with documentation related to in-house and on-site software/hardware training classes which train employees and site technicians in up-to-date simulation environment, procedures, maintenance and trouble shooting.

Works with fellow software engineers, hardware engineers and management to affect a smoothly integrated system.

Reviews and utilizes the OS and simulation software logs to support and inform co-workers.

Travel, shift work, and special work hours may be required to accomplish some of the above tasks.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None. However, more advanced Production Support engineers are expected to provide mentoring for less experienced engineers.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: (Minimum Requirements)

Level I (Grade 48) - Bachelor's degree in Computer science; or equivalent combination of education and experience. C++ competency desired.

Level II (Grade 49) - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science; and two years related experience preferably in simulation; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge and expertise for this level usually results from internal progressive experience. However, selection for this position is based on the demonstrated ability of the person to successfully fulfill the requirements listed. C++ competency desired.

Level III (Grade 50) - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science; and four years related experience preferably in simulation; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge and expertise for this level usually results from internal progressive experience. However, selection for this position is based on the demonstrated ability of the person to successfully fulfill the requirements listed. C++ competency required.

Level IV (Grade 51) - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science; and six years related experience preferably in simulation; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge and expertise for this level usually results from internal progressive experience. However, selection for this position is based on the demonstrated ability of the person to successfully fulfill the requirements listed. C++ competency required.

Level V (Grade 52) - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science; and ten years related experience preferably in simulation; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge and expertise for this level usually results from internal progressive experience. However, selection for this position is based on the demonstrated ability of the person to successfully fulfill the requirements listed. C++ competency required.

SOFTWARE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Fortran 90, C and C++; Unix, Windows, Workstation and Server Operating Systems; Scripting Languages; MS Dev Studio; MS Visual Source Safe and Team Foundation Services; MS Office, including Power Point and Access; Emacs and VI a plus

EQUIPMENT KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

PC hardware, servers, networking hardware and standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and fax machines.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Fluent technical English through both verbal and written communications is a must. Able to effectively present information, pose and respond to questions from subject matter experts including technical, pilot, engineering, managerial, clients and customers. The occasional need to effectively present information in one-on-one or small group presentations is required.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Able to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry; Able to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; Able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES OR REGISTRATIONS:

Valid Driver's License, where applicable. Must possess a valid Passport or be able to obtain a valid Passport at company expense.
