Position Overview

Reporting to the VP, Aggregates Performance, the VP Performance – Engineering & Capital Projects will be responsible for providing operational performance management and continuous improvement support of AMAT’s performance systems in mine planning, engineering, strategic capex, and fixed plant asset management. This includes collaborating with the Aggregates National Performance Committee, the Aggregates Division Performance Committees, AMAT operating companies, Strategic Sourcing, 3rd party vendors and industry associations to provide the business with the tools, resources, project oversight and training to deploy our performance systems effectively.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.


  • Lead the consistent development, communication, execution, and sustainability of AMAT’s performance systems in mine planning, engineering, strategic capex, and fixed plant asset management.

  • Partner with national and division performance leadership to identify, develop actions and execute, short- and long-term operational performance management activities that promote continuous improvement

  • Promote the deployment and effective use of AMAT performance systems tools through training, observation, and mentoring

  • Collaborate with the Aggregates National Performance Committee, of various aggregates leaders from across AMAT to develop, train and execute on the performance systems

  • Support OpEx capability assessments of aggregates teams, leaders, processes, market strategies to be used for coaching and to develop & implement site specific action plans

  • Participate in internal and external benchmarking across CRH’s businesses in North America and Europe to identify opportunities to improve existing performance systems and introduce new operational performance skills, tools, and techniques

  • Develop and oversee strategic capex process from project planning, contract management and successful commissioning

  • Support the development and deployment of appropriate fixed asset management system

  • Collaborate with the Strategic Sourcing to identify cost saving opportunities and establish 3rd party vendor performance reviews

  • Continuously provide critical input to evolve the performance systems by staying abreast of technology, forming and sustaining strategic vendor alliances

  • Drive results in a highly decentralized organization through influence, persuasion, leadership, presentations, training, coaching, and group facilitation skills, identifying and mentoring talent across AMAT

  • Provide ongoing feedback to the Divisional/Regional/OpCo Presidents & Divisional Performance teams

  • Work on ad hoc projects as directed

Qualifications

Education/Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S. or B.E.) from four-year College or University, Engineering preferred.

  • Successfully led large CAPEX projects (>$1mm).

  • At least 5 years’ experience in CAD Mine Planning and simulation software

  • At least 10 years’ experience in an Aggregates leadership role

  • Proven experience and leadership in managing comprehensive performance improvement/change programs to advance the organization’s strategies and goals

  • Experience in building trust and coaching a diverse team of operational leaders

  • Strong ability to gain trust and create alignment across the organization to help drive the performance strategy

Work Requirements


  • Travel 75 %

  • Must be 18 years in age or older.

  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.

  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.

  • Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA. Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position is: Safety Glasses, Safety (hard toe) Shoes, and Coveralls.

  • Compliance with all OSHA and/or MSHA regulations.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.


  • Able to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear

  • May require standing for extended periods of time

  • Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to adjust focus

  • Must be able to hold weights of 5-10lbs in a stretched arm position for extended periods of time

  • Able to climb ladders or stairs and to work at heights

  • Able to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time

Work Environment

Normal office working conditions in addition to industrial plant sites and quarries, requiring the usage of personal protective equipment, e.g. hard hat, steel-toed boots, and safety glasses.


  • Able to work in all weather conditions.

  • Ability to drive up to 8 hours for onsite services and meetings.

  • The position may require work outside of normal business hours in response to critical incidents or business-impacting project deliverables.

  • The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; and risk of electrical shock or burn.

  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee may be occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.

  • The noise level in some areas of the work environment may be loud but is typically moderate.
