Facility Mechanic (1st Shift) at Akorn 2 in Somerset, New Jersey

Job Description:


This position assists in maintaining and repairing the proper working condition of all company property, utility equipment, process equipment and HVAC systems. They must be able to perform onsite facilities repair and preventative maintenance work orders on all physical aspects of all buildings, manufacturing equipment, controls, landscape, and HVAC systems.


General knowledge in the repair and maintenance of the following equipment:

  • Electrical Circuits

  • HVAC&R

  • CFC Certification

  • Plumbing/Pipe Fitting

  • Standby Generators and UPS’s

  • Aseptic Gown Qualified (Required) Must become Aseptic Gown qualified within 4 months

  • Analyzes and solves technical maintenance problems, using test equipment to troubleshoot.

  • Work according to plan maintenance SOP’s,WPT’s, PMO’s and protocols

  • Black Seal License HP

  • RO/WFI experience

  • Pure Steam Generators

  • Autoclaves

  • Production Kettle Operation

  • Operation of Lab Hoods



  • A Working knowledge of all hand tools, meters, test manifolds

  • To be able to weld, solder, thread pipes, paint, construct and demo when needed

  • A good working knowledge of electrical wiring and installation, control wiring, PLC knowledge a plus

  • Understanding and able to manage a building management control system

  • The ability to communicate and work with outside contractors


  • High School Diploma or GED required

  • Technical School Degree/Certificate in electrical/mechanical disciplined preferred

  • Minimum of two years' experience in the pharmaceutical facility management or Health Care Environment Preferred.


The ability to meet AKORN's attendance requirements. All full-time employees are required to work a 40 hour week, most of which has to be during "regular" business hours. At times it may be necessary to work additional hours in order to get the required tasks accomplished to meet deadlines. This position may require you to be on call on a rotating schedule


Must perform job duties in a safe manner.


  • Should be able to lift or move a minimum of 50lbs

  • Should be able to climb a straight ladders/ and or stair case

Mental requirements include:

  • Ability to apply deductive reasoning and understand complicated issues.

  • Ability to receive instructions and follow work rules and company policies.

  • Ability to follow safety and security practices.

  • Ability to meet deadlines and effectively deal with office stress.
