Barnes Group Inc. - Barnes Aerospace, Lansing Division has an exciting career opportunity for a buyer to play an integral role in manufacturing operations. The right candidate should be self-driven, be able to execute and direct activities associated with the development, application and maintenance of purchasing standards. This position reports to the Supply Chain Manager.


Core Responsibilities:



  • Reviews Purchase requisitions for accuracy and obtains technical data and scope of work details required to launch requests for proposals in support of operational needs as well as customer proposals.

  • Responsible for PO placement, ensuring on time delivery and swift resolution of supplier issues.

  • Responsible for inventory management associated with commodities purchased. Evaluates/selects suppliers based on cost, delivery, quality and other performance parameters.

  • Generates, manages, and maintains Purchase Orders, contract documents, and long-term agreement deliverables.

  • Evaluates supplier proposals and prepares evaluations necessary to determine the best value proposition.

  • Manages vendor compliance with and flow down of US government procurement related requirements.

  • Conducts negotiations with suppliers to establish best delivery and lowest overall cost without jeopardizing quality requirements.

  • Maintains company standards and follows established standard work and processes.

  • Demonstrates integrity through all supplier and internal relationships.

  • Performs liaison activities with suppliers and internal customers to prevent delays in Production.

  • Develops new suppliers as required and leads supplier surveys and audits.

  • Responsible for annual certifications including but not limited to Cybersecurity and Conflicts Minerals Reporting.

  • Ensures accuracy and timeliness of receipt, invoice and payment to supplier.

  • Drives cost reduction and process improvements as part of daily activities.

  • Lead cost reduction programs with operations and vendors to reduce cost and/or increase value.

  • Support Company policy, procedures, and safety policy, including export compliance.

  • Works with Supply Chain Manager and peers to develop and implement strategic and tactical supply chain strategies.

  • Develop and foster relationships with operations and other depts. to understand and respond to needs.





Qualifications:



  • 5 years purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Proficient in MRP / ERP systems to execute daily responsibilities.

  • Proven negotiation skills with both external and internal customers.

  • Proven track record of scheduling and organizing time effectively in order to complete assigned function.

  • Demonstrated cost savings and avoidance ability.

  • Demonstrated process improvement ability.

  • Proficient on Microsoft applications.

  • Excellent communication skills with all levels of the organization, both internal and external.

  • Ability to work in a challenging and schedule driven environment.

  • Collaborative, ability to build sound working relationships across the organization and within the supply chain.



Education Requirements:


  • Minimum 5 years of related experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Bachelor's Degree in business, management, or related field.
