This leadership position manages Abiomed's communication in the United States and is responsible for the development and implementation of effective communication strategy. The ideal candidate is a strong writer and proven strategist who can both lead and "do." The candidate should enjoy clinical science, working at a fast pace, and building relationships across a global organization. The candidate should also embrace Abiomed's culture of continuous learning, innovation, collaboration, and putting Patients First.

Responsibilities:


  • Oversee U.S. communication strategy

  • Lead the development, execution, and coordination of integrated, multi-channel communication plans, working cooperatively with teammates responsible for social media, internal communication, digital/web, video production, events, and patient advocacy

  • Develop U.S. media pitching strategy, execute the strategy, and manage the U.S. public relations firm

  • Lead messaging and press release development

  • Lead crisis communication preparation and execution

  • Work directly with C-suite executives

  • Collaborate closely with the communications leaders for Japan and Europe on global announcements and activities

  • Assist communications team colleagues on major initiatives and activities


  • Be a champion of Abiomed's Patients First culture

Required Skills and Experience:


  • 8+ years developing and executing multi-channel communication campaigns

  • Previous experience with a publicly traded company (either in house or agency)

  • Previous experience in the health care industry

  • Bachelor's degree in communications or a related field

  • Strong writer with a sharp attention to detail

  • Ability to work proactively, independently make decisions, manage processes, move projects forward, and complete multiple tasks on deadline

  • Desire to seek and incorporate constructive feedback, and a passion for continuous improvement

  • Desire to improve outcomes for heart attack patients and make the world a better place

Preferred Experience:


  • Master's degree in business, healthcare or a related field

  • Experience working in the cardiology or medical device industries

  • Experience at a multinational organization
