WSMV, a Meredith Corporation TV station, is recruiting for a Producer. The Producer at WSMV creates, coordinates, writes and executes a variety of competitive newscasts. They display creativity, aggressiveness, attention to detail, resourcefulness and team spirit in the pursuit of excellent newscasts and content for online and social platforms. In addition, the Producer:
Develops day-to-day on-air look of the newscast to attract the largest available audience to the station's profitable newscasts.
Contributes to station's web and multi-media efforts
II. Essential Job Functions
Weight % Accountabilities, Actions and Expected Measurable Results
50 - Previews news material before airing. Writes scripts for broadcast and digital platforms, including edits and research show elements. Prepares possible interview segments. Coordinates breaking stories. Selects graphics and pre-production elements. Proofreads scripts. Coordinates breaking news and executes show in the control room. Contributes content to web and multimedia efforts.
10 - Collaborates with executive producer, reporters, digital content center and photographers to determine the content of broadcasts. Contributes story ideas and participates in editorial planning meetings. Communicates fully with anchors.
10 - Times the show while on air; meets all requirements of commercial content and off-times.
10 - Conceptualizes innovative graphic and pre-production elements. Monitors and works to constantly improve and evolve the look and execution of newscasts.
10 - Coordinates with creative services department to develop effective promotions for upcoming shows, newscasts and events.
10 - Assists the digital content center as needed.
III. Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications or a related field, or equivalent training and/or experience.
Experience:
Two to three years producing experience preferred.
