Job Summary
Under the direction of the Director of Business Performance and Insights or similar position, the Senior Business Analyst is responsible for the overall membership data analytics, the generation of membership forecast, and budget based on inputs from the Commercial markets. The position is also responsible for the monitoring and definition of assigned key performance metrics and analytical insights to measure against the Commercial division goals.
The Senior Business analyst will closely collaborate and work as a liaison and a trusted advisor of Sales, Market Teams and Finance to develop annual and long-range membership and financial models as well as perform monthly reporting and analysis. The individual is responsible for targeted user acceptance testing of enterprise application upgrades related to membership and product reporting. The individual provides subject matter expertise on product and market segmentation and ad-hoc analytics as necessary.
The Senior Business Analyst updates, and maintains data on business performance, product changes, and market expansion. The individual is expected to have advanced knowledge on key analytic tools and lead projects as necessary.
Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities
Develops the Commercial annual membership forecast with Sales and Market Teams for fully and self-insured product lines.
Defines the business requirements for the corporate development of tools (including a robust suite of corporate KPIs and scorecards) to establish, analyze, and provide critical information to isolate key performance trends in new sales, membership, and retention. Helps develop divisional KPIs as needed.
Leverage corporate developed analytic and reporting solutions and division-specific reports to identify business performance drivers related to membership, product, sales/broker analytics. Collaborates closely with Market Teams, FP&A, Underwriting, and Actuarial to improve performance, implement and monitor metrics.
Maintains membership reporting to support the monthly financial close process and reporting needs on an enterprise and market basis.
Oversees report development, queries, extracts and generates insights to support membership related ad hoc or scheduled data requests and analytics
Produces high complexity ad-hoc analytics designed to improve financial, operational, product, and sales performance
Acts as a liaison to various external business partners for membership reporting
Analyzes prevalence and profitability of the product portfolio in terms of revenue adequacy, benefit selection, growth potential, and efficiency of medical and administrative costs; provides key insights for strategic decisions that enhance financial performance and business opportunities
Leads consultative deep-dive engagements in various areas of operations to support Commercial business goals
Leads projects and initiatives as assigned
Requirements
Education:
BA/BS degree in business, accounting or finance; MBA preferred.
Experience:
4 years of progressive financial, analytic, and project experience in healthcare
In-depth understanding of budgeting process and key performance metrics in the health insurance domain
Preferred Skills/ Qualifications:
Ability to work effectively and independently across all levels of the organization on complex issues
Proficiency in the use of Excel, Power Point, SQL required
Prior experience with a Business Intelligence tools such as Tableau or MicroStrategy, and SAS strongly preferred
Strong communication skills and demonstrated ability to interpret and deliver analytical insights
Proven ability to advance multiple projects and deliverables simultaneously.
Working Environment
Normal office environment. Must have the ability to travel between locations as required by the position.
