An Ammonia Refrigeration Entry Level Operator monitors the operation of the ammonia refrigeration system and may engage in the repair, operation, maintenance, and installation of industrial ammonia systems and equipment, while under the direct supervision of an Operational level person or above. Ensures GMI commitment to human and food safety through the safe operation of the ammonia refrigeration system. This position is responsible for supporting regulatory compliance of all elements of the Ammonia Refrigeration Management (ARM) or OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) Program and EPA Risk Management Plan (RMP) at the facility.

The General Mills-Chanhassen, MN plant operates 24 hours per day 7 days per week. We are hiring for night shift, 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Shifts are on-off pattern is 3 on followed by 2 off, 2 on followed by 3 off, 3 on followed by 2 off. Cycle length is 2 weeks. Provides 26 weekends off per year. Changes in volume and production requirements can result in changes in work schedule and additional overtime. Refrigeration Maintenance Mechanics must be willing to work any shift including nights and weekends.

The starting wage for this position is $30.58 per hour. General Mills also offers shift differential payment for those working off-shift. Additionally, we offer a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 3 weeks' vacation, 11 paid holidays and retirement benefits.

Responsibilities:

• Lead with safety - both human and food safety


• Monitor refrigeration systems operations


• Complete rounds and record pertinent operation parameters


• Complete emergency shut down activities within defined hands on demonstration training


• Take operational control actions only under direct supervision of an Operational level personnel or above


• Engage in the repair, operation, maintenance, and installation of industrial ammonia systems and equipment, while under the direct supervision of an Operator level person or above


• Demonstrate an ability to perform and adhere to current operating procedures outlined in Initial Training (Hands on Demonstration)


• Demonstrate competencies to qualify for Entry Level Certification within 90 days


• Pass plant-specific Hands on Demonstrations


• Pass plant-Specific Written Test


• Maintain current respirator fit testing

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must be 18 years of age or older


• Must have the ongoing right to work in the U.S. without sponsorship


• High School Diploma or GED


• Strong mechanical aptitude


• Basic mechanical skills and knowledge of machinery, electrical skills, communication skills, math skills, and computer skills


• Experience with computerized maintenance management systems


• Maintain current respirator fit testing


• Trained in Confined Space, Hot Work, Mechanical Integrity, Control of Hazardous Energy (Lock-Out/Tag-Out), Fall Protection, Hearing and Eye Protection, Hazard Communication (HAZCOM), Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Site and Product Security, Emergency Action Plan Programs


• Demonstrated knowledge of industrial ammonia refrigeration theory


• Certified HAZWOPER First Responder Operations Level or higher or ability to obtain within 90 days
