Senior Scientist, Next Generation Sequencing Applications

Waltham, MA

Your Role:

As a member of the Miltenyi Biotec team, you will will be responsible for the development and improvement of the NGS sequencing platform. As part of Miltenyi NGS team, the successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary effort and will work collaboratively with the leads of the various groups to align and to further project goals and to integrate these technologies into the overall workflow.

Among other responsibilities, you will:

• Design and lead studies to test hypotheses related to project outcomes. Analyzes data, evaluates results, forms conclusions, and determines future experiments.


• Recommend innovative approaches and new investigations based on experimental data or new scientific information arising from area of responsibility. When appropriate, acts independently to resolve scientific problems encountered during experimental procedures to improve productivity of results.


• Improve upon current workflows/processes in creative and effective ways through the use of appropriate process improvement methods


• Present results, conclusions, and implications to project teams and senior management.


• Apply advanced technical writing skills to produce manuscripts, and reports and participates in project planning, process updates, study design and critical decision making.


• Assume responsibility for timely completion of studies, ensuring activities are consistent with project critical path and responding appropriately to changing priorities.


• Play a key role in the development of future improvements, technological advances in Miltenyi NGS platform, and expansion of intellectual property.


• Participate in and direct (when appropriate) collaborations with key external laboratories/institutions


• Deliver key insights into product application opportunities for the NGS platform


• Mentor and develop junior staff.

Requirements:

• PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related fields and 3+ years of relevant industry experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience


• Excellent understanding of the underlying technical principles of next generation sequencing chemistries and workflows, associated instrumentation platforms and data analysis and interpretation algorithms


• Experience in next generation sequencing (NGS) technology, histology and immunohistochemistry


• Experience in assay and product development

Employees entering the laboratory must wear appropriate clothing and protective equipment such as Lab coats, safety glasses and gloves. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
