Position Overview:


WestEd's Mathematics Area is seeking a Research Associate in Mathematics Education to work with a team of researchers, developers, and technical assistance providers on projects focused on improving teaching and learning for secondary and adult basic education students. This work focuses on the design, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum and professional development programs for these populations; contributing to study tasks, such as recruitment, implementation, analysis, and reporting; and contributing to proposals.


The ideal candidate has prior experience working on complex math education projects that seek to improve outcomes at the secondary and/or adult basic education levels, including improved outcomes for English Learners and underserved student populations; developing expertise in qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods research design; evidence of and a strong commitment to promoting educational equity and to producing high-quality project deliverables and publications; prior experience as a practitioner; strong organizational and project managements skills; and a curious, collaborative disposition.


Responsibilities:


Existing projects (100%) - Contribute to tasks from 3 projects that involve developing, testing, and refining curriculum and professional development materials at middle and high school level math content; analyzing and reporting implementation findings from an evaluation of a math intervention; and/or providing technical assistance to state- and/or district-level math coordinators on standards-based math instruction.


SPECIAL NOTICE REGARDING THE WORK LOCATION OF THIS POSITION - Currently, all staff at WestEd are working from home until further notice. Once we return to offices, this position will be based in one of WestEd's offices. Candidates can submit a request to work from home.


Minimum Qualifications:



  • Master's Degree in Mathematics Education (or similar field)

  • Mathematics education research experience

  • Project management skills and experience, preferably in the context of research projects

  • Experience working collaboratively with a variety of staff, while attending to multiple priorities

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word


Note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. The successful candidate must be authorized to work in the United States.
