OVERALL PURPOSE OF JOB:

The primary purpose of this position is to process freight through the final stages of shipment. This includes preparing, staging, and loading freight onto vehicles.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB: (other duties may be assigned)

1.Prepare freight for shipping.

KEY MEASURES:

*Ensure government regulations are met if they are shipping hazardous materials.

*Stretch wrap or band freight as required.

*Label in accordance with government specifications or National Motor Freight requirements.

*Maintain shipping records

*Receive quotes and update spreadsheets

2.Prepare bills of lading.

KEY MEASURES:

*Prepare bills of lading through web or manually.

*Insert NMFC item number and other pertinent information into bills of lading.

*Ensure 99% accuracy.

3.Stage freight for shipment.

KEY MEASURES:

*Organize freight by carrier.

*Load freight onto the proper carrier.

*Maintain accident free operations of forklifts and accident free work area.

OTHER DUTIES OF THE JOB:

1.Maintain cleanliness of work area.

2.Load and maintain records for recycling and pallet trailers.

3.Prepare worksheets for the following year.

4.Perform other duties as assigned or required.

SUPERVISION GIVEN TO THE FOLLOWING DEPARTMENTS:

This position typically does not require the supervision of staff.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED FROM:

Supervision is typically received from the Shipping Supervisor.

WORKING CONDITIONS TYPICAL OF THIS POSITION:

Work with machinery with moving parts.

Work alone.

Occasionally Incurred (Less than 25% of time on job)

Work outside, Work outside and inside, Work in heat between 90 - 100 degrees, Work in heat over 100 degrees, Work in cold below 55 degrees, Work in excessive or frequent temperature changes, Work in wetness, Exposure to intermittent noise above 85DB, Exposure to vibration, Exposure to gases (propane), Exposure to grease/oils (preservatives/motor oil), Work with moving vehicles, Work weekly more than 40 hours (Avg.: 46 hours).

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT TYPICAL OF THIS POSITION:

Use of eye protection (safety glasses), Use of gloves (cotton, latex, anti-abrasion), Use of body protection (apron).

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.

Experience/Training

No experience or training.
