Summary of Job Duties:

The Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies (CAST) in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas is accepting applications for a mid-level, forward-thinking, professional interested in exploring a technical appointment as a Research Assistant in a sophisticated research and development work environment. The successful candidate will use their formal education, technical skillsc and experience to perform research in the areas of spatial and temporal data analysis, model and simulation, visualization, cartography, web-based mapping, and data mining. Work is performed at a level where actions may have visibility at the University and research program level.

The is a one-year appointment, renewable based on the need for the position, availability of funding, and continued satisfactory level of performance in the role.



Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's of Science and at least two years of experience, and/or Master's of Science and at least one year of experience, and/or Ph.D. in geography, mathematical sciences, statistics, environmental science, computer science, computer or industrial engineering, or a related field; degree must be from an accredited institution of higher education and conferred by the time of appointment


  • At least two years of experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment on full stack development projects


  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team to research and problem solve complex problems


  • Demonstrated knowledge of databases and database management, especially SQL/NoSQL server programming and analysis with extensive knowledge in one or more of these languages/skills: JavaScript, SQL/Database integration, NoSQL database integration, Python, C#, JavaScript frameworks (esp. Vue), .NET framework, geoprocessing services, map services, Jira, HPC and cloud computing, and 2D and 3D web mapping applications


Preferred Qualifications:


  • At least five years of experience finding and implementing solutions to complex problems requiring analysis of spatio-temporal datasets


  • Demonstrated experience developing and managing enterprise scale geospatial projects that integrate heterogenous datasets


  • Demonstrated experience and skill deploying applications in commercial cloud environments


  • Demonstrated knowledge of several of the languages/skills above


  • Experience working within automated testing environments (CI/CD) and test-driven development (TDD)
