Summary of Job Duties:

The Research Computing Facilitator is an integral member of the University of Arkansas central IT Services (ITS) research support team working in collaboration with IT professionals, faculty, researchers, and students to provide technical expertise and dedicated assistance in support of research activities across the campus and beyond. This position will help researchers acquire and move data, solve computationally intensive multidimensional problems, improve their customer experience, and generate value for our campus stakeholders across departments and constituencies.

The Facilitator provides outreach and technical support services for general research, as well as compute intensive programs using HPC and HTC resources. The Facilitator will provide research consulting and design services, proposal development, data management, and security plan assistance.

This position is a primary point-of-contact and leading advocate for expanding computational research, attracting new researchers and students, and growing collaborative partnerships in the design, implementation and use of the University's research computing services.

The Facilitator advises on a wide range of large and small-scale research programs and projects through collaboration with ITS, Libraries, and other campus research offices, and by developing a strong understanding of community-leading trends and research initiatives.

The Facilitator assists researchers with accessing data, study design, statistical and analytical methods, and coordinates the use of computing services, software licensing, and associated technical support for new and ongoing research projects and academic endeavors.



Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Animal, Behavioral, Computer Science, or related field, and/or another Science degree with quantitative or qualitative research experience from an accredited institution of higher education


  • At least three years of experience supporting research programs and/or services, with demonstrated expertise in research data management, statistics, computing and networking systems, and related technologies


  • At least three years of experience as a Research Assistant, Post-doctoral Student, or similar hands-on experience


  • Demonstrated experience working in an academic research environment providing research support and training services to faculty and students


  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with researchers, team members, and administrators at all levels


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience with shared memory and distributed memory parallelism (such as OpenMP and MPI) and accelerators (such as GPUs)


  • Experience with computer programming (Bash, Perl, Python, etc.)


  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical details to non-technical audiences including documentation, training, teaching, and public speaking


  • Highly demonstrated skills in time management working in a project-based environment


  • Demonstrated experience successfully managing and prioritizing multiple projects and plans, implementing project specifications, reporting project status, identifying delays, and raising concerns


  • Demonstrated exceptional interpersonal skills, including demonstrated ability to interact credibly with a variety of stakeholders including researchers, IT staff, IT leadership, and university administrators


  • Demonstrated awareness of compliance regulations surrounding research data including federal requirements and granting agency standards (HIPAA, FISMA, CUI, CMMC, etc)


  • Demonstrated understanding of high-throughput computing, high-performance computing, high-performance networking, tools to support collaborative research, cloud storage, cloud computing, and other technology used in this research area


  • Demonstrated ability to analyze problems from multiple points of view


  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively about technical and/or non-technical challenges and adapt rapidly to changing technology and requirements

Salary Information:

$48,000 - $52,000 (commensurate with education and experience)
