Job Summary

You are part anthropologist, part business consultant, part storyteller, part business insights curator and part trend watcher. You connect the dots between human behavior, creative development, and business strategy.

As a Brand Strategy Principal, you enable breakthrough creative work and serve as a catalyst for differentiated positioning while ensuring the integration, integrity, and consistency of the Blue Shield of California brand. You are the go-to resource for our agency partners and internal clients incorporating deep, analytical business thinking, creative concepting considerations including actionable feedback, and strong perspectives on the industry, consumers, marketing, and business strategies. You are a team player with exemplary relationship building skills and solid consulting capabilities working cross-functionally to bring the Blue Shield brand to life using insights, research, and human behaviors. You have successful experience with budget oversight and management and a working knowledge of media/communications strategy, planning and execution.

The Brand Strategy Principal is a leader of the Brand Strategy and Management team, collaborative, fact-driven and creative thinker with great human and business instincts who influences and shapes brand elements and tone. The Brand Strategy Principle also guides and provides input into brand market research and identifies ways to further enhance the branding of BSC's products and services, while incorporating analysis of current market data and trends.

In the role, you will successfully utilize your understanding of the company's current products and future concepts while monitoring marketing trends and keeping a pulse on the competitive environment.

Exceptional storytelling and writing skills, including crafting executive presentations and ghost writing is required and core to the role. As is a working knowledge of reading and writing contracts and managing to a schedule of work.

Responsibilities


  • Implement the BSC Brand Marketing plan ensuring all aspects of the product, capabilities or companies marketing and activities align with the ethos and goals of the brand.

  • Through analysis, highlight areas of weaknesses or conflicting messages of the BSC Brand in partnership with the Creative Team, Marketing Teams and Agencies.

  • Transform client briefs into strong creative briefs for our creative leads and advertising agencies.

  • Apply research, information and insights distilling them down into a single strategic idea for our creative team and marketing partners to operate from.

  • Evolve communications from information into inspiration.

  • Incorporate a depth of understanding of BSC's Consumers, Key Constituents and Member Segments.

  • Champion for great work and the processes necessary to achieve that work including breaking down silos or bottlenecks.

  • Serve as a Blue Shield Brand Ambassador and champion Blue Shield as a Great Place to Work.

  • Actively create and manage your personal development plan in partnership with Brand leadership.








Knowledge and Experience


  • Bachelor's Degree with 10+ years of professional work master's degree a plus, but not required (Communication, Advertising, Marketing, Fine Arts, Business, English)

  • Progressive work experience across marketing, agency management, go to market strategy development.

  • Agency experience is preferred but not required.

  • Confident, articulate, and excellent instincts regarding human behavior, business strategy and general marketing strategies.

  • Work effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision.

  • Have a passion for creativity, culture, understanding and how people think/interact with brands.

  • Project Management and budget management skills.

  • Willingness to listen and continuously learn.

  • Problem solver.

  • Familiar with, but not be constricted by, formal processes.

  • Experience working on creative and content strategy.
