Summary of Job Duties:

The Award Specialist is responsible for reading and interpreting the Streamline and Sponsor award notices/contract agreements in order to setup all awards in Workday (including creating and setting up complex Center Awards for high activity researchers). The Award setup in Workday includes but is not limited to, creating new awards, creating amendments to existing awards per agreements with Sponsors for continuations, carryforward, supplements, etc., setting up Grant work-tags, creating cost share grant work-tags, creating and amending subaward lines, selecting appropriate F&A rates on an award and assigning the appropriate Principal Investigators, Co-Investigators and Grant Financial Analyst to Award Headers and Grant work-tags so departments and PIs have the necessary access to view and purchase against an award/grant work-tag. The Award Specialist works with the Cost Accountant to request new F&A rates to be setup in Workday if they do not exist and sets up subaward basis limits for each subaward line. The Award Specialist provides back up to request the setup of new sponsors and subrecipients in Workday and runs reporting in Workday related to award and grant work-tag management. This position is governed by Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelors degree in finance, business administration, general business, or a related field from an accredited institution of higher education


  • At least four years of experience in fiscal operations, including two years in a supervisory or leadership capacity


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience with grants and contracts


  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills


  • Demonstrated accuracy and meticulous attention to detail


  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills


  • Demonstrated proficiency with data analysis is required to extract, transform, and interpret data


  • Demonstrated advanced Microsoft Office skills particularly with Excel and Outlook


  • Experience with Streamlyne and Workday


  • Demonstrated ability to appropriately handle sensitive information


  • Demonstrated ability to handle a high level of communication with internal and external customers


  • Demonstrated ability to analyze business and technical documentation to uncover potential requirements, formulate thoughtful ideas and questions, and extract useful insights


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:


  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws, ordinances, policies, and procedures


  • Knowledge of Uniform Guidance Requirements


  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices


  • Knowledge of computers and software application programs and ability to work with technology


  • Ability to multitask in a high-pressure and deadline-driven environment


  • Ability to maintain a professional attitude at all times


  • Ability to communicate using clear communication skills which could include but not be limited to the following methods: personal face-to-face contact; using e-mail or other written correspondence; virtual applications such as Teams and Zoom; and through telephone contact


  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of critical thinking and problem solving to make decisions independently


  • Ability to independently research and comprehend written policies


  • Ability to coordinate with both Pre-Award and Post-Award members of the Sponsored Programs (OSP) Team and key stakeholders across campus
