Water Fitness Instructor - West Boise YMCA at TREASURE VALLEY FAMILY YMCA in Boise, Idaho

Job Description:

Treasure Valley YMCA offers our members a wide variety of Aquatic Fitness classes designed to help participants work effectively in the water to get fit, stay healthy and create lasting friendships. We offer Deep Water fitness, Arthritis programming, Aqua Core and Pilates, Stand Up Paddleboard, Aqua Zumba, Shallow water fitness and Active Older Adult Aquatics.
Water Fitness Instructors are responsible for creating a safe, friendly, and helpful community environment for members participating in water fitness classes.

Responsibilities:

Provide excellent delivery of water group exercise instruction to all members.
Engage members to deepen their relationships in the Y cause.
Monitor and ensure safety of participants, staff and volunteers in the water group exercise class.
Monitor class attendance for data tracking.
Actively work to increase group exercise participation.
Mentor class volunteers as assigned.
Handle and resolve class concerns and informs supervisor of unusual situations or unresolved issues.
Stay informed of all program offerings, class scheduling, membership changes, policies, etc. and cross promote when appropriate.

Qualifications:

Group Exercise National certification (AFFA, ACSM ACE, Aquatic Exercise Association (AEA) Water Fitness Instructor, or YMCA Foundations of Group exercise)
Aquatic Exercise Association (AEA) Water Fitness Instructor
Y Aquatic Safety Assistant or Lifeguard certification (or higher) from one of the following institutions: YMCA, American Red Cross, Boys Scouts of America, Canadian Red Cross, International Lifeguard Training Program Ellis & Associates, National Aquatics Safety Company (NASCO), Starfish Aquatics Institute
Current CPR and AED certification required within 45 days of hire.


Physical Demands:

Continuous: perform all physical aspects of leading group exercise class including walking, standing, reaching, lifting, jogging, kneeling, crouching, bending at the waist, twisting, and balancing.
Frequently: squatting, crawling, move authentically, ascend/descend stairs.
Occasionally: setting up and storing equipment
Rarely: sitting, lifting up to 50lbs

Schedule:
This is a part-time position at 1-5 hours per week. Flexible schedule, with extra hours available on a substitute basis.
