Job Summary: Equinix Metal, a leading bare metal cloud provider, is looking for a Principal Engineer for our Devilery Team. In this role, you will be responsible for being a technical leader, mentor to more junior engineers, and an active contributor to our internal systems/codebases as well as open-source projects, like Tinkerbell, Kube-VIP, or the upstream project of your choosing.

This role can be remote or based in one of our office locations.

Responsibilities

• Seek out weaknesses, identify problems and solutions, approach every day with a self-starter attitude and a focus on resolving problems while not getting bogged down in a changing landscape




• Deeply care about technology, your craft, and about the success of your teammates and the company - strong intrinsic motivators to help drive self-improvement is a must




• Building solutions capable of handling the full lifecycle of physical servers through software automation




• Develop qualification test frameworks and automation for incoming hardware systems




• Mentoring, coaching, and growing more junior engineers and being a boat-raiser for engineering in general




• Collaboratively write RFC's / blueprints that establish our go-forward patterns, architecture, or that otherwise create a picture of where we want to go




• Contributing to, and participating in, our open-source software projects and community

Qualifications

• 10 years experience. 5+ years of experience in software and systems engineering preferred




• Experience translating reported issues, defects, enhancements, etc., into actionable software development requirements; preference is given to candidates with experience managing open source projects and communities




• Expertise with BIOS, BMCs, UEFI, and PXE boot




• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, QEMU/KVM, expertise in Linux




• Experience with testing and qualifying software, firmware, and server hardware components for production use




• Proficiency in programming, specifically golang, python, bash, and YAML (yeah, we put this in here to let you know we are sometimes funny)




• Bachelor's in Computer Science or Computer Engineering
